STAYING OUT OF PARTY CHAT FOR HALO 5

I miss the old mic days. I met a lot of random people in my halo two days that heightened my enjoyment of the game. It sucks we lost that. I felt halo three was the last halo to encourage random players to join togther and use some good old fashioned team work with a dash of respect for one another.

I get not all players you meet are fun to play with, there will always be trolls, but dont let those trolls prevent you from joining forces with people from all over the world.

It is easier to party chat and I admit I party chat way too much. So, I have decided to make a vow not to use party chat anymore, especially for halo 5. I hope others do the same.

If you are pro mic and you want to add me, go ahead, I dont care what your skill level is. Not trying to make this a recruiting thread for myself. Add others that are pro mic, ban together. Lets bring commincation back into halo, cause party chat is here to stay and it is dominating. Don’t fall to the fear of stranger danger.

You can agree with my decision or disagree. I just wanted to share my plans for the future.

Party chat was one of the worst things that ever happened to XBL.

Glad I am not alone in thinking that

Eh im one of those anti socials so I usually play solo. Never really cared for party chat even though I used to play in parties and I mute everyone in game chat mic or no mic.

In some sense its needed and in others it is not needed.

People go into party chat to avoid harassment. Me, I either find those people amusing or just mute them, but I don’t find that many -Yoink- bags in Halo. I also don’t mind a little smack talk from somebody before the game starts. I think game chat is part of what made the community flourish quickly so early on and made pre game lobby interesting.

I personally dislike being in parties in general when we are in the same lobby, unless you’ve got something to hide, important to say, or obviously in another lobby. When I rolled in big parties for BTB, we all stayed in game chat. It was just us and no worries about someone disconnecting.

I plan to use game chat only when I’m not in a team of 3 or 4. so if i see you online then expect either a wall of silence from my friends and I or a response. you want to add me go on. can’t guarantee i’ll answer.

Another thing cool about game chat, is whether or not they are in a party or micless, you can still instruct you teammates who aren’t doing so well. At least I do it anyways, give encouragement and direction. It has worked before, people still can hear you and listen even though they aren’t responding.

If we aren’t going to force game chat, I think there should be rewards for players to enter game chat. So the longer you are in game chat (MM), the more you unlock.

Ex.
5 min - emblem
30 min - weapon skin
1 hour - armor skin
5 hours - vehicle skin
10 hours - stance
24 hours - visor
48 hours - armor
72 hours - helmet
168 hours - assassination

Something like this would encourage players to enter game chat, but would not be entirely necessary to play the game. New players and players still in the process of getting these rewards would keep returning, keeping the chat occupied.

wrong, if they are in party chat and you are in game chat, they can’t hear you, you’re talking to yourself. not talking or mic-less they might be able to hear you depending on their chat settings, but parties cant

Yes they wouldn’t hear me, but I wouldn’t know that, so I try to help my team out anyways.

Communication is prettey much lost if you don’t talk. Its not like battlefield where you could give commands without speaking.

Good point.

Party chat has its place for sure, but it has become too much of a standard.

Party chat isn’t the problem, people who shout abuse at others during game chat are which is why people use party chat for the most part. Frankly, I’m not going to spend half my time muting/blocking people during my limited game time when I can negate the problem completely by simply not using the mic at all. I’ve yet to be persuaded otherwise.

I’ll be with that ASAP. I mean it’s not like people are handing out -Yoink!- when they speak. Halo 3 was so pro-social and it did just fine. Playing a packed custom games with people you just met, nobody in a party. How boring would it be to play a quiet customs with everybody making their own parties. The reactions from peeps, in the moment, can be priceless.

We need the post game lobby back, that’s how I found good players to add to my buddy list.

I imagine this would result in a lot of people connecting their mic, entering game chat, and then leaving it on the floor/table somewhere while they unlock their stuff.
