Statue's Armor

So did Cortana’s nanobots also modify the statue’s armor we see in the new trailers, or are we gonna get a new explanation for changing things that needn’t be changed.

Well the statue looked like the new design just skinnier.

Lpl.

You must not have seen the graphic novel that came out last year. It was about cortanas time as an architect. During the loading times of each campaign mission throughout the entire halo series Cortana was keeping herself busy through design. She did designed and redesigned many things, including the Battle Rifle and Warthog, but the her most famous work is the redesign of Chiefs armour.

A stitch up for sure.

But on a serious note, I really liked Chiefs old armour design, it’s the one I connected with the most. But the new design fits the theme of the new direction of halo more effectively. Chiefs old design might look a bit out of place in the titles. But who knows, evolution is good but not always wanted.

We don’t even know the year in which Halo 5: Guardians takes place. For all we know, it could be in 2569 for some reason, over a decade after the Master Chief triumphantly returned to defeat the Didact and then went on a successful mission spree with Blue Team. All in his new armor. That’s plenty of coverage for the armor.

Besides, this is just a teaser. You’ll note discrepancies in Halo teasers since the inception of the franchise.

I can accept that she has designed things, including Chief’s armor. Nanobots? Sure, if 343 says so. But as I’ve stated in the past, the spartans from Halo 4’s opening cutscene shouldn’t be wearing it, and neither should this statue, assuming of course the statue was raised due to what MC did on the Ark. For all we know, this statue could be dedicated to him for stopping the Didact. But given he went AWOL shortly after the Requiem incident iirc, and he is now branded a traitor, he’d likely not get a statue.

It’s kind of dumb and should look like his Halo 2/3 armor, but it is what it is I guess. Art direction’s gonna do its thing.

We don’t know if that was shortly after Requiem. All we know is he took on mission after mission following everything on Requiem and went AWOL sometime after that. Could have been a decade later, for all we know.

I know, right? The old Mark VI was badass, the least they could’ve done would be to build the new one off of the old one, sort of like MP Mark VI. The helmet is the only thing on the new Mark VI that even distantly resembles the old one.

It could be a newly commissioned statue. That’s always possible.
And besides, I’d consider it to be an instance in which using new resources for designs is more convenient and recognizable. In the Prologue of Halo 4, the Mark-VI designs could be attributed to Halsey’s reimagining of the events. And in this case it’s possible that these trailers may not be canon at all and only be symbolic. That’s certainly true for Halo 4’s Scanned trailer.

I’m pretty sure these teasers are strictly figurative. There are plenty of other small (deliberate?) mistakes to show that someone’s recollection of an event may be innacurate. Unless we see that statue in the game, the teasers should probably considered non-canon.

I’m surprised people are even buying the nanobot -Yoink-.

I forgot which one, but in an interview it was mentioned that they(343) just went with a different art direction. They made the mark 6 armor
look more like a walking tank and have a more functional look.

He never got new armor, I’m surprised no one else heard this before.

If chief had nanobots, imagine all the OP -Yoink- he could do

Like… Instantly healing after taking a number of shots and emerging from cryonic sleep with repaired and redesigned armor?

The warthog has had nanobots since the halo 2 days. It’s not actually that rare of tech. Just because there’s nanobots though, doensn’t mean you suddenly get super powers.

That being said, the canon reasoning was nanobots. This has been stated in a number of places. Though I agree it was likely given due to fans going nuts about them changing the armor.

The trailers are clearly meant to be symbolic. The statue looks that way for practicality’s sake, not because his suit’s appearance has been retconned. I would have preferred 343i using the original design to provide a better sense of continuity, though it really doesn’t matter: John and Locke obviously never delivered cheesy monologues to each other in the middle of a desolate wasteland.
