Okay. I think it’s time to discuss the issue with the Stationary Turrets (the U.N.S.C pattern turrets). Now most of the turrets are set-up in amazing firing positions, the one major flaw is teh accuracy of the turrets themselves. Currently, stationary turrets have beyond terrible accuracy, in my expierience they appear to be only effective at close range. At any other distance however, even when fired in short controlled bursts, it is still completely in-accurate rendering it near use-less, you’d be better off pulling out your Assault Rifle and using the turret as cover, keep in mind this is when the turret is still mounted on the tri-pod.
It’s a problem and a buzz kill, people shoudl be scrambling for cover, throwing out holograms, and going into armour lock when they see someone getting on the turret. Right now every-one just laughs in your face and blow you away, because they know you can’t hit them, or that your not going to do any real damage since half the bullets are going to miss or atleast thats what I think when I see some one try to get-up on the turret now. So I think it would be a reasonable idea to buff the accuracy of Stationary turrets slightly, not too much but, a little. The accuracy buff would only buff the turret when it is still on the tri-pod. If it is removed (Torn off) the accuracy is lost. It would be a good system and more realistic.
Tearing off the turret will drop the accuracy, since you lose the stabability of the tri-pod, in exchange for being mobile. While those who keep the turret on the tri-pod have increased accuracy at the cost of being immobile. I think it would a good thing to put in. What do you guys think?
Well I think I’m surprised someone finally noticed that the turrets sucks in reach. While that is all true people have always laughed in the face of people on a turret or holding one, I’m sorry but if you’re fighting a guy who’s really good he’s gonna rape you if you’re useing that turret I laugh at people who use Them and i kill them all the time even in the other halo’s it’s just not smart one of the best things a really good player has is speed and a dmr so if you’re moving slow or not moving at all you’re going to regret grabing that turret. But I do see you’re point and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to do that.
Yeah, i’d like to see the accuracy and damage of the tuerrets tweaked. I was on Invasion using the plasma turret of Alpha to fire on a spartan in the junk yard, he had his backturned and when the bolts struck, he got just enough time to turn and start firing back until he was slain by team fire.
Besides, If you know how to handle the Turret, you can take down dmr users, i’ve done it plenty of times. Though my best moment would be two machine gunners pelting Paradiso’s red base entrance with rounds and making some guy dash to cover.
The only problem I have with this is that if the accuracy got tweaked too much, people would just start using the turret like an energy sword or rockets. However in certain game types it might not be a horrible idea as long as you consider the map, how the turret is used in the map, and how easily it would be to get around the turret. I feel that it would not matter in say, Big Team Battle, but Invasion might be a little iffy considering certain routes might be shut down due to people using the turrets too much. As for team slayer, in a map like asylum it would never work because it would deny all access to your base in CTF or Assault.

Thats the thing though, a stationary turret should be regarded as a power weapon. Reach already screwed everyone by making it over heat. Add to that the horrible accuracy it has, and its basically like using an AR at long range. In Halo2 I use to tear people up with turrets. Halo3 I didn’t really use the turrets too much. Reach I don’t even bother with, it’s not worth the trouble. What used to work was teamwork, and grenades. It would take 2 to 3 people to get someone on a turret. Now a lone gunman can blast his way past one with little trouble.

A lot of this isn’t entirely true. Turret can’t rape YOU if you’re caught off guard. Sure they’re vulnerable while being used, even more so when they’re hoisting them around. But it’s hard to take the hat off a SPARTAN when they’re busting high caliber rounds into your butt.

Even if it was laser-accurate at long-range, it still wouldn’t be a good weapon because your target could take cover much more easily.
Yeah its pretty lame. I remember being able to kill Scorpion tank with the turrets on Containment on Halo 2.
The turrets are power weapons in Shotgun Assault on Asylum in Action Sack.
Other than that, they’re almost useless.
