I am really curious to see where things go following the end of Halo 5. I think people don’t tend to grasp how massive a change this is, or at least should be to the in -game universe. The flood have only ever achieved (so far) a local outbreak and while losing High Charity was a crippling blow the Covenant still endured in one form or another. But, Cortana outright taking over the entire galaxy is pretty up there in terms of events.
I think with the Infinity fleeing into space they’re doing something similar to Battlestar Galactica or the Quarians from Mass Effect. The only free humans will be whatever ships escaped the Guardians activation and given how slow the Guardians are at warping in (it took Cortana several minutes to get hers ready) the whole goal will probably be a cat and mouse affair as they try to prevent themselves getting pinned down by other Created forces.
I had wondered about how the Covenant would be incorporated into this game. My suspicion is that they will have similar ships or “migrant fleets” fleeing the created who are still hostile to humanity. We saw that this was hardly unknown to the Covenant since High Charity was basically a giant space station; they could have similar large stations. So we could for example start Halo 6 with the Infinity being attacked by a Covenant fleet looking for salvage, only for the Prometheans to show up and then they have to escape before a Guardian warps in.
One thing I am worried about is how the UNSC’s relationship with AI changes. I really do think that 343 wants to portray the UNSC as an unambiguously “good guy” faction, part of why they didn’t want Locke to go try kill Chief, and I was annoyed that Roland is still around. Realistically, after that sort of AI rebellion they should simply not trust any sentient machine and would probably order any remaining ones destroyed. Laskey making a personal exception with Roland is fine. But it would be like if the Quarians had kept building Geth. Its a very common sci fi trope that we would destroy sentient machines before they take over for a reason; because its probably what would happen. So the idea that the UNSC and humanity in general is just going to say “oh those were the bad AI” would be pretty unrealistic. If anything they should be (after they win) completely technophobic and actively try to destroy the remaining sentient AI ala the Animatrix. However I think 343 will continue to refuse to apply any kind of moral grey to the UNSC.
As for the planets themselves, I am assuming Cortana will have to use mass produced constructs and Prometheans to physically occupy the conquered planets. Could she even have enough soldiers to do that? I am doubtful that any organics will actually take up her offer or accept it so she’s not getting help. The Covenant races, maybe, but I don’t think they’ll get past her being a human AI and will probably also end up fighting her. This will probably be a lot like the Tau from 40k. The Created do genuinely want to help and do use their new Forerunner technology to improve things. But, nobody likes being taken over and having their freedoms removed by beings they don’t even consider alive. So I am guessing guerrilla war, but with nothing larger than a scorpion working. As an aside I didn’t get why the Guardian hadn’t shut down Blue Team’s Pelican or the Arbiters sword in the final cutscene. I am assuming that it only shuts down big things like ships and large power plants.
Just as an aside, the map Riptide is set post Halo 5 on a world with Created but a Pelican is still seen flying around. Whats up with that? Are they some sort of resistance? I thought I saw a Phaeton but couldn’t be sure.
I feel like this is 343s chance to really go all out with the AI enemy plot line. It’s been a weak build up but things could get interesting if they give Cortana control of the Galaxy.

Just wanted to chime in and say, respectfully, that that is a load of horse manure good sir. The Tau are a deceitful and devious bunch, they tout the “benefits of the greater good” but in reality they neglect to mention the fine print of “the greater good of the Tau people before everyone else”. There’s evidence of mass brainwashings, sterilizations and labor camps for human auxiliaries, not to mention whatever goes on with the Kroot and specifically Vespid who have control devices implanted.
As for Cortana, I think she’s an idiot. Or she’s just operation on a very flawed theory regarding the effectiveness or even appropriateness of the “Mantle”. Nobody should have the Mantle, it was because of that Mantle that every race under the protection of the Forerunners couldn’t defend themselves against the Flood. The Mantle bred overdependance and arrogance of the worst sort.

See that’s the thing. If most of the game is set on a Halo or on the Infinity/other ships I am not sure how they can really show what the galaxy is like. I am of course assuming that things with Cortana are resolved in Halo 6. I mean we’re starting off on the elite homeworld. If its human AI taking over then I’d be very surprised if we don’t also visit a human world to see the consequences of the war against the Created. Possibly Earth.
Maybe some books might deal with this.
I mean I am not even sure if theres going to be a time jump between five and six. Maybe a couple of months to a year? Maybe even longer?
It just feels like a very big plot or threat to be over and done with in one game. Maybe they remove Cortana from the Domain but other AI or the Warden continue to be a threat?

I have the army, I am fully aware of the first among equals and communist evils of the Tau. The reference was deliberate. They are not going to portray the Created as sympathetic or good.
Shes probably suffering from rampancy or being controlled. I honestly don’t think theres any other way of rationalising her behavior. The character changes between 4 and 5 but no explanation for this is presented in the game or by the devs. Saying “she isn’t evil” is besides the point. To take a comparison, you can make a character like Superman as evil as you want with either a plot device (red kryptonite) or some traumatic event that changes him (Injustice GAU). The problem with Cortana in Halo 5 is that they don’t explain this change and don’t clue the player in that this is a mystery.
And because Cortana is trying to conquer the Galaxy, there’s a very good chance that we’ll meet new races. After all, Humanity and the former Covenant races only inhabit the Orion Arm; most of the Galaxy is unexplored. Halo 5 really is a game-changer, as it could lead to expanding the scope of the series beyond Humans, Covenant and Forerunners.

Maybe in expanded lore. But, I 'd be surprised if we had another race show up. Theres honestly that much stuff going on atm that I just don’t think they’ll be able to introduce another faction.

Yeah, Cortana sent her Guardians all around the galaxy, and since her message mention every living species, so everyone is affected, and no one share Cortana plans, probably we will walk on Balaho (homeplanet of the grunt), Doisac (homeplanet of those -Yoink- Brutes) so every important planet, Halo species have - and these planets are also all around the galaxy - to fight against her. That’s how we can really discover the galaxy, and see that Halo has really have a great universe.
About time. I would suppose, Halo 6 should continue the story exactly where 5 ended. But probably 343 don’t want to waste time to show (in a game, that’s not Mass Effect) how the Humans or more precisely every living beings will find a way to stop Cortana, and prepare for fight against her, so maybe a comic or book show how would that happen. But don’t forget the thing, how the species will make alliance. Because that’s also needed to overcome Cortana and every AI who joined with her, and it’s not easy to make that AI vs living beings thing.
I hope Halo 6 will bring Mendicant Bias and with him more mistery.
In the legendary ending it shows another halo ring and it’s turned on, probably, and so it could be about trying to distroy the ring while beating cortans.
I’m curious to see where they take the AI in 6 given the depth of integration in the UNSC.

Sanghelios hasn’t been hit yet.
There is going to be a book or a comic or something before Halo 6 comes out to get a lay of the land. (Just had to post)
Mendicant Bias bout to come back and take control. Calling it now

Its going to be Guilty Spark, he was shown to be alive at the end of the Forerunner Saga, I think he was salvaged or something and he was humming in the background of the legendary ending. Although Idk why they would go to a Halo, maybe to directly access the domain or sonething.
I think we’ll be looking at more of a Star Wars Episode 3 to 4 kind of transition.
In episode 3, the republic took control of the Galaxy, leaving the last Jedi and the resistance to run off and hide, similar to how Halo 5 ended.
Episode 4 picks up some time later, the resistance on the run, trying to find a way to bring down the republic. I think Halo 6 will follow a similar story line.
I’ll be interested to see where they take it given the degree of AI integration, and in some cases (Roland) the rejection of Cortana’s influence/control.
