State of Social Arena

First of all, I love Halo. I also love Halo 5 with all its mechanics and more dynamic gameplay. That being said, I hadn’t played for a while now and I just returned to play a couple of games. On Halo 5, I’m a solo player mostly. So I play the social playlists. Now, playing social arena is somewhat frustrating.

  1. I’m being matched with full fireteams who are clearly communicating whereas my teammates run around like headless chickens going off in all sorts of directions after spawning.

  2. People drop out. I played five games and there was not one in which I wasn’t outnumbered at least for a part of the game.

  3. That connects to the first point: I get matched with the same team again and again.

  4. There is just something generally irritating about how fast some players can take me down. I just started shooting at someone with a magnum, he didn’t see me, he managed to turn around an kill me with his AR before I could even take his shields down. Is that lag? These types of things happen a bit too often. Same goes for melee … I always lose melee fights. Chances are that I am so slow that I just naturally lose 100% of these encounters. Or, and that is what I find more likely, it is just a tiny amount of lag that puts me at a disadvantage.

  5. Smurf accounts: I look at the people the I play and they are ALL smurf accounts, ranging from level 1-20 with an amazing kda, like 3 Xbox friends and next to no points on their account. This is more of a general Xbox problem where everyone can have as many accounts as they want but I think 343 should also not allow the same players with different accounts. Just messes with the whole idea of matchmaking.

I just played another game where the one person did the following things:

I threw a splinter grenade at him as he was running towards me, he ran through it and spartan-charged me to death. How is frontal spartan charge a one hit kill? It certainly isn’t when I do it. And more importantly, how did he go through the grenade without dying or dying in the process because if I spartan-charge someone from the front, it takes my shields down entirely. How does this not apply to this person?

Same person, different encounter: I throw a splinter grenade at him while he doesn’t see me and start shooting. He survives the grenade (of course) and kills me with his magnum before I kill him. How? Even without the grenade I should have won. He didn’t even move sideways or anything. I landed all my shots. How is this a thing?

Edit: They were all smurfs and we were also outnumbered again, that is one person was completely inactive and then left or got kicked at some point, I don’t know. I’m not going to keep grinding for 152 like this. It’s just too annoying. WZ is a joke too because of team kills etc. It’s a shame but as I said, it’s really too annoying and this happens literally all the time. The exception to the rule is a fair and balanced game with 4v4 actual players.

Many problems and no solutions. Team up or suffer with the headless chickens

How is it my job to solve these problems?

  1. That’s why I never solo que anymore. This made FFA such a great playlist until it was removed. Now I don’t really play because I’m not in a mood to talk to people.

  2. Well, that’s Halo. Its in social so new teammates should join.

  3. Yes, that happens. You have to back out and wait for that team to match someone else.

  4. Could be lag, it could also be the fact that the AR is like a full auto precision weapon. One AR bullet to the head of a player without shields will kill them. Just like a precision weapon.

  5. Well, the game detects smurf accounts. I have made a smurf and automatically played people my level the very first match.

The splinter grenade won’t really work if you thro it on a player while they are moving. You have to throw in front of them so that they run into it. Otherwise they run straight through with minimal damage. Also, there is a complex button combo which allows spartan charges to be an instant kill from any direction.

Hey man, thanks for all your feedback. What I’m most interested in: What’s that button combo? I have never heard of that.

It’s a sweat fest. Period**.** 4 games I played and all 4 had different champions sweating.
Nothing casual or social about it. And it’s only 3 maps slayer only, that also needs to change.

Not many people have. I’ve only seen it done once in matchmaking.

it’s called MMR and it’s the reason why you match teams and people trying in social arena, warzone has the exact same problem.

Nice post. U touched something that struck me… Smurfies… It has always been a problem.
Most people are not like me… I’ve never smurfed, boosted, cheated.

They kind of got rid of boosting and the system works. I play with my friends (mostly lower levels) and we have fun but I don’t get any rank from it but it’s all in good fun.

Maybe they will work on smurfs next.

As for me, I have not played social much at all. It’s kind of sad. I used to love castle wars and would probably play it again if it had shotguns or some fresh adjustment. Idk… I really enjoyed some of the things they come up with but…

In short, I understand your frustration.

Social is usually more competitive than ranked.

Social slayer just throws me into the same 3 maps.
It’s fun but I am going to mix it up a bit.

Currently working through Master Chief saga playlist and a 5 slayer or warzone FF is my reward.
