Please put a check in the matchmaking system that would prevent kicking off objective games when the team sizes will be unequal.
Lopsided objective games end up being exactly that; lopsided. I know the idea behind this is that someone will join the game in progress on the disadvantaged team, but unfortunately this typically occurs too late in the game (if at all).
I feel comfortable saying that the large majority of objective players would have no problem sitting in the lobby for a few more seconds to ensure that a balanced game will be played.
The logistics of that would just be too painful. Then you would probably be complaining about how long it takes to find a match.
Though I do agree with severe lopsides, as I’ve seen a few where it was 6v3 or 6v4. I think being down one or two, with a better performing JIP, is fine in objective (much more being down 1 I think is workable), but being down half compared to the other team…that’s just painful, and its not a 1:1 scale…bigger team games, being down less than half is much worse than being down half in a smaller game (more enemies in larger games = more frustration = more ways for the game to just not be fun for the understaffed team).
How would the logistics be too painful?
If rednum = bluenum then startgame
else continue searching
Halo 3 did this and it worked quite nicely.
As I stated, I would have no problem waiting to ensure a better game. Most lopsided objective games fall apart quickly, anyways, with some or all members of the “short” team quitting at the beginning. When they all quit, everyone is back at the lobby searching once again, but more time has been wasted than if an appropriate match was found the first time.
Being up even one player is a HUGE advantage, especially in 5v5 games. Plus, the JIP just ends up quitting when they enter an oddball game that is 150 to zero a minute and a half in.
I agree. I haven’t played that many uneven games in Objective but in BTB it’s horrible. I forgot to back out after one game because I was checking my stats and the next game started 2v8, probably the most boring game I’ve played so far in H4.
