G’day H5 community! The time is near when I shall be starting my H5 mp journey for the very first time… I’m currently a H4 player and mainly only play BTB, so with that in mind anyone have any suggestions for new players breaking into H5? Is BTB a good start? I know nothing about the weapons or req packs or even game types etc but have been reading the forums, watching youtube gameplay to grasp some idea of H5. I’m a very average casual player (trying my hardest to get better!) and love playing Halo which is where I want to stay. Would really appreciate some advice and thanks for your time
Halo 5 has the worst big team battle of any of the halo games, it also has the worst multiplayer in general.
Don’t ever buy req packs with real money!!!
If you’re a casual player then you won’t have much fun playing halo 5.
I think that’s all you need to know.
BTB in H5 is pretty good IMO. H5 just takes awhile to get used to. I suggest playing the campaign at first just to get used to the mechanics and aiming. The req system really only effects warzone and cosmetics. I feel bad for new players this late in H5 life cycle because the req system is very bloated. Basically req packs come in bronze, silver and gold packs. You can purchase packs with req points or real money. You earn req points after each multiplayer game. It’s best to open bronze at first. They don’t guarantee any unlocks but just starting out you will get quite a few easily. Then if you spend more than 5000 points and didn’t get at least two unlocks, the cost of a silver. Then just get silver’s, which are 5000 req points but give you two guaranteed unlocks. Keep getting them till they refund two 1500 point req cards instead of unlocks. Then start getting gold packs which are 10000 req points. They will refund two 3000 point req cards once you unlock everything. Now unlocks can be anything from cosmetics, visors, aarmors, assassinations, weapons certifications or vehicle certifications. But open them in that order because there is silver level stuff in gold packs so you could potentially pay gold price for silver unlocks. Don’t concentrate on getting one particular thing just go for all unlocks.
As far as game play it just takes time. There really isn’t a good place to start. Especially this late because most players have been playing awhile. Once you get the hang of the mechanics check out the custom browser as well. I stick to FFA for ranking, then super fiesta (good playlist to complete weapon commendations), btb, heroic warzone firefight (good place to earn req points and xp points… good payouts for both without the stress multiplayer) and then regular warzone. Warzone will be really tough for you without a good req inventory so stick to the firefight till you build some reqs. Or just stick to arena where reqs don’t matter. But good luck to you and understand H5 plays super competitive in every playlist especially compared to H4.

What are you even talking about?
Halo 5 easily has the best multiplayer of all the Halo games in general. There’s no comparison.
Worst BTB? LOL WHAT
The only thing “bad” about the BTB maps in Halo 5 is that they are all usually forge maps. Nothing bad about playing on a forged map, just shows you what all you can do with Halo 5’s forge in general.
Only thing I agree with you is casual players won’t have fun playing Halo 5 at all.

Halo 5 is better than halo 3!? Well sorry i don’t like playig a fast paced peice of crap that resembles halo just as much as destiny.
Yes there is a problem with playing only on forged maps, it proves that 343 are lazy and don’t feel like making maps of their own.

Yes. Much better.

No, it dosent.
OP. BTB is fine. It can get a bit sweaty so if youre not into that i would honestly recommend Warzone or Warzone: Assault after you unlock a BR. You dont need good reqs to do good in WZ.
One thing you should know before running and gunning, Learn your maps, where powerups and weapons are. Just like all Halo’s, Knowing where to be at the right can make a difference, the fun factor comes after you know how read other players and their movements!
Have Fun!

Does H5 have Forge like H4 that I can get into alone to learn the maps? Thanks for everyone’s feedback so far, appreciated.

Multiplayer wise? 100% yes. This should be obvious.
Campaign wise? Eh. They’re about the same honestly, both are equally terrible in there own ways.
Halo 5 essentially has a Halo 3 story on what should be Halo 2’s longevity

Halo 5 doesn’t resemble Destiny in any shape, form, or way at all so I don’t quite get what you were trying to pull here at all… Maybe it does in terms of grinding to get the max rank in Halo 5? but grinding literally exist in every single game to date so far to be release, so that comparison is terrible altogether.

Well I sure didn’t see you complaining about how much of a disaster Reach was/still is today because the majority of all Halo Reach’s maps are literally forge maps or copy and pasted area’s from the Campaign it-self. Nothing original about the game at all except for the DLC maps.
> 2535420568109893;5:

Yes it 100% proves 343 is lazy despite them wanting to show how vast and huge the new Forge mode they created really is, and all the possibilities you can make with it. 100% proves 343 is lazy despite them literally making the most complicated Forge mode you can get without it being a overly complicated map editor. I’m also sure the majority of the maps 343 did make which aren’t Forge maps still proves 343 is lazy despite it having more maps in the game it-self that hasn’t been created with Forge at all.

Halo 5 has Forge, Custom games, and tons of other game modes/game types you can do to learn the maps/look at them, where weapons spawn and plenty more. So yea, pretty much.
Unless your looking to create/build maps or spawn in things, then no. It’s completely different and requires it’s own learning curve, but once you pick up on it it’s actually incredibly easy.
Halo 5 also includes it’s own controls where you can literally have default Halo 4 controls in Halo 5 if you’re used to that in terms of gameplay. Sadly Halo 5’s forge only has 1 mode though, no customize-able options for it at all in terms of controls, but that’s the only drawback of Halo 5’s forge. Everything else? Fully custom.

Those are some cool OPINIONS you have, but I think I’m going to stick to my OPINION.
Good luck and God speed my friend

Ok I do like Halo 5’s multiplayer but its campaign is FAR WORSE than Halo 3 and any other Halo for that matter. You must be retarded if you think Halo 3’s campaign is as bad as Halo 5’s.
Halo 5’s multiplayer is the best in terms of networking and fairness. Each iteration has had both subtle and extreme improvements.
I love Halo 5’s multiplayer as much as I liked 4’s. 4 was better than Reach and I liked Reach. Problem is, each iteration was good for the time it was released in. Going back to Halo 3 where it used projectiles instead of hitscan for weapons is the sole reason I’ll never go back. Once hitscan was fully introduced in the series, H3 multiplayer became obsolete in my eyes.
With that being said, OK, you should stick with BTB if you loved it. You will probably get smacked a few times in there by the teams that search, but once you make some friends with decent players on there you’ll be able to have more consistent fun and not have completely terrible experiences. Quitters are a problem in this game.

Start with Warzone and Warzone Firefight. They will provide for all of your needs and offer vastly more XP and RP than any Arena matches.
I suggest playing through the campaign first, or at least the first 2-5 levels, before entering multiplayer. Play on whatever setting you play on H4 (i.e, if you play normal on H4, play normal first. If you are good enough to be comfortable with heroic then go right into that) – that will be the easiest way to get used to the weapons and mechanics, imo. The forerunner weapons are good against the forerunners – covie weapons good against the covies. Get as much practice as you can with AR, Magnum and BR, as those are the most important weapons to learn in the game (also, if you decide to play arena, be warned that the STORM RIFLE is an absolute beast. It is easily the best auto rifle in all of Halo games)
Warzone is the most ‘casual’ mode in my opinion. It may difficult at first, since there aren’t alot of new players to play against that wont have REQs, but I think once you get some basic reqs you will do fine. I think it is the most fun mode to just play for -Yoink- and giggles, don’t have to worry about winning too much. Run around, capture bases, shoot spartans, shoot marines, shoot baddies.
Hope this helps.
Halo 5 has a different feel compared to the previous titles. It will take time adjusting to the aim mechanics. Shot registration and servers can be an issue sometimes. The casual game modes can be exciting but sometimes you’ll come across those that want to play hard; I am guilty of such. The competitive game modes can be challenging and if you’re interested in learning the ins and outs of competitive play there’s many pro streamers and other sources to see from. Smurfs in ranked play can take away more CSR if you lose so keep that in mind. If you’re wanting to increase XP you can always rely on Warzone. Never use real money for REQs unless you’re purchasing HCS packs or different in-game voice announcers. Check out the Custom Browser, that’s pretty fun as well. Overall Halo 5 will be challenging at first but if you stick with it you’ll come to enjoy it. You’ll also acquire your fair share of issues about it because there are plenty. Hope you have a good time.
Yes you do need reqs to be much more effective in warzone. You can also do much better if you can unlock many of the load outs and their variants. (Longshot and Sentinel BR will definitely help for very long range engagements). If you don’t have a lot of reqs, I recommend playing arena or social, there all players start with the same load outs and all of the other guns are picked up from the map itself.
H5 is the best multiplayer?? The original H2’s BTB alone beats H5’s by a mile, smh.
OP, play Warzone to get used to everything and then try BTB.
I was like you, OP. I played lots and lots of BTB in Halo 4. But in Halo 5, it just didn’t click for me (I would say that’s mostly because of the lack of BTB Heavies but there were a few reasons). But then I tried Warzone Firefight and got hooked. So if you don’t like Halo 5’s BTB, I would recommend Warzone Firefight. Just remember it gets more fun when you have more reqs (especially vehicles).

Something feels wrong about believing both of those statements at the same time. It’s almost like you’re saying Halo’s multiplayer gets better when it’s less casual-friendly. Maybe that’s not what you meant, but it’s hard not to take it that way.

The funny thing is hitscan was already a thing in Halo 1 and Halo 2. Bungie went full on projectile with Halo 3, then went back to hitscan with Halo 4.
The thing about Halo 5 is that the bullets are indeed projectiles, but move way to fast so people consider them hitscan instead, without realizing they are actually projectiles altogether.
For example: Play with the Sniper rifle for a while, you can bounce it across walls and all that, but the bullets do indeed take a few miliseconds or so to actually hit the target at all. It’s not “instantly” as most people think it is. It just moves incredibly fast, that’s all.

I’m sorry but those are just the facts. Halo 3 had equally as much of a terrible story that Halo 5 has. Halo 3 just had shorter levels, so the story doesn’t seem as bad as it really is. Unless you call every single important person in Halo 2 dying for little to no reason “good story” then honestly I feel sorry for you.

The original Halo 2 BTB doesn’t even come close to how good and balanced Halo 5’'s multiplayer is so I don’t quite get what you mean here at all.
