Now with Season 8 being last, dear developers start showing some love to Campaign and Co-op improvements!
Content for games isn’t going to stop because Season 8 is the last season.
All the same type of stuff is coming to the game still just in a different sized package - that being smaller than the 100 tier season.
This doesn’t suddenly increase their time availability. Content, features & fixes are all still coming throughout 2022.
There’s plenty of stuff on their internal roadmap that’s coming to MCC. I’m sure there will be plenty of love given to campaigns in that time.
I seriously hope Coop Netcode does get changed over to the dedicated server model, the campaigns (and Spartan Ops) need it badly for the longevity of the MCC. And plus the Campaigns are the last section of the MCC that cannot be matchmake-able as well currently and I firmly believe the MCC would really benefit if Campaigns got matchmaking (since Firefight already has this, Campaign should not be left out, I know its a lot of work, but the value of this would be very high), I think its time this gets reintroduced to the collection.

That would be nice I’ve never actually played the campaigns in coop so it would be nice to at least try it even if I dont actually know the person I’m paired with
And fix some of the coop crashes while you are at it.
Second this
Campaign is the heart of halo

I just thought of another reason, also it would help complete the difficulty completions on coop and you can get achievements along with this, if we had Campaign Matchmaking as well and help complete the coop challenges legitimately (I have to use a 2nd controller on idle to finish it because I don’t really have people right now with my busy schedule to play with me to play through a couple missions). Adding in Campaign Matchmaking and jumping into a missions with 3 others (or a partner) would be so nice to do all of the challenges in a matchmaking setting. I hope they can offer Legendary difficulty for matchmaking as a special playlist.
Don’t forget, 343 would need to upgrade CEA and 2A’s campaigns to support 4 player coop to make it work in the Match Composer with 4 players (otherwise 343 would have to have a 2 player option as well, which would be kind of inconvenient). I really believe with the mod tools now for Halo CEA and soon Halo 2 mod tools in Season 8, they can make a new version of the same two campaigns using the editing tools to add in more enemies in every encounter to add more challenge (or maybe a bit more than vanilla, depends on how 4 players will play out if it makes it too easy with no changes to the levels) so in the end we would have two versions of the same missions, one set for 2 player coop (original legacy version) and one for 4 player coop (MCC version). Yes I know the level design on CEA and 2A do have tight quarters at times but Halo 3 had the same in some levels too, grenade/rocket explosions are a bit worrying in CEA as the explosion radius is quite big in this game but I think we can manage regardless. We also would need additional UNSC weapons, vehicles and ammo, like 2 warthogs instead of 1 on some missions or instead of 2 banshees (thinking of Two Betrayals on CEA) we need 4 banshees. Also the loading system between sections or areas (if someone is far away from the loading zone into the next area) I hope can be worked out a bit better with 4 players playing as that can get a bit chaotic with the way Coop works on CEA.
Lastly for the Match Composer modes for Campaign in Social Matchmaking, they would be:
- 2 Player Campaign (Reach, CEA, 2A, 3, ODST, 4) - 4 Player Campaign (Reach, CEA*, 2A*, 3, ODST, 4) [if CEA and 2A can be upgraded and supported to 4 players as I said above] - 4 Player Spartan Ops (Halo 4)No need for 2 players on Spartan Ops because Spartan Ops as said by the developers were fine tuned already for 4 players (for very good reason i’m serious, try playing on legendary). Spartan Ops also needs the Score and Time system like the campaigns have. Also it would have to be on its own tab because Halo 4 Campaign is already in the 4 player campaign tab and the Match Composer Menu can’t fit more than six tiles by the looks of it in one tab I believe (no need to change this or accommodate for Spartan Ops, it can be in its own tab). Also back to the 2 Player tab, the reason we do need the 2 player option is because of CEA and 2A for the legacy coop experience so we can play CEA and 2A how they originally were!
Lastly, Firefight is our test case to see if were comfortable to play with random people or strangers against AI (and so far has worked out just fine), extending this to campaign matchmaking, I think will work just fine. Hopefully we don’t have to deal with Idle players, hackers, trolls in campaign and that has been a problem in the past. I think 343 this time around has to make a bigger effort to make a Campaign Matchmaking experience work better than it has in the past, it was always slapped on as an extra feature but wasn’t really invested into that much compared to PvP matchmaking. I hope this can change in the MCC.
Yeah some dedicated servers (or some other latency fix) for online co-op is desperately needed (campaign and spartan ops).
And this is less of a big deal but I REALLY wish the lighting in the H2A campaign could be fixed a bit- so many glowing particle effects (like the first-person Carbine’s muzzle flash, or Elite shields being shot) reduce visibility making me need to switch graphics to be able to see what I’m shooting in the more intense firefights.
