Stacked teams in social

I run into these full teams of high kd players in social 4v4 in Halo 3 and I kind of wonder, what is the point of this? Is it really that fun to stomp teams of afk spitscreeners, noobs, and the one lone higher skilled player that matchmaking has decided is able to singlehandedly carry them?

Is this all that’s left of the Halo population, people who’ve been playing for 15 years straight stacking up together in order to stomp the rest of the playerbase into quitting?

I’m not a fan of sbmm, but can we please have teams match other teams?

Yep, it is. It’s why I permanently quit it. The game is pretty much full of people who’ve never left their rooms since 2007. I said it once, and I will say it again, doing LASO for me is easier than a 4v4 “social” match. I wish I was joking, but I am NOT, this is 100% serious.

That’s pretty much MCC multiplayer in a nutshell

Blame 343s laziness for putting sbmm in social to make it more competitive instead of fixing ranked matchmaking, this is a direct result of that. People who have good KDs and WL ratios who search solo are constantly paired with teammates who have abysmal stats to even it out. I can’t tell you how many times this has happened to me. I’ve had games where I’ve went 25-8, and 3 teammates who go 8-15, 7-17 5-10, etc and we lose. Got tired of it every game so I rolled with a team to fix it. The population in 4s isn’t high enough to match teams to teams all the times. The only solution is to turn off sbmm. Again this is 343s problem they created.

I just play H4 Swat or H3 Ranked now only because of this, not too many sweats playing h4 so I can actually enjoy swat there for what it is.
H3 Ranked has smurfs and stacked teams but not as many as social.

And then those God-squad players will say SBMM ruins their experience because it makes it “sweaty”

This has been my experience lately too, when FFA games take too long to find I search as a random in 4v4 and almost always am matched up against full teams while my “teammates” seem to have no thumbs and also use the handicap settings(at least in Reach). I also search in CE and in those games I always have a “teammate” that doesn’t know how to press the Y button to switch to pistol, they just keep ARing and go -10.

Unfamiliar with what you mean, the only handicap settings I know of are in H2 on the original xbox that didn’t make it to MCC.

From what I’ve seen around here, he refers to armor lock, jetpack, camo and hologram as ‘handicap’ settings. I would hazard a guess that even though they’re not in pvp matchmaking, evade and drop shield would fall into the same category too.

@Dirty_Nurse please confirm

Sprint OP, please nerf…

This tends to happen when the matchmaking system is designed by 343i. Searching alone as a human being with a working pair of hands results in all three of my teammates being either completely new, someone that actually thinks 343 is a good thing or someone that is overall negative by 100000 and 100% has Halo posters on their bedroom wall.

This results in me and any other person with normal cognitive function either smurfing or playing as a team of 4. As much as I would prefer to search solo in social, the alienating matchmaking system put in place because the developers are frustrated that they can’t make a Halo game effectively forces me to pub-stomp.

I’ve been trying to find a match of H2A just so I can get the back smack achievement (one more to go).

It has been days.

Correct, I commend you on remembering that from my messages to you last year. Of course, by “handicap” I don’t mean anything physical about any player and instead am referring to the sport definition of the word. Any player that considered themselves skilled at this game would never resort to using any of the various handicaps such as jet pack or armor lock.

Again tonight when I searched solo in 4v4 I kept getting matched up against full or partial teams. After the third straight instance of this I closed out the MCC and started playing tBoI.

i see people complain about this a lot but it’s really a lot of these devs fault for adding in the SBMM that never existed before, if there was no strict SBMM you’d see much fewer teams if not any in social because when you make social ranked as well it defeats the purpose of a ranked mode, that’s why ranked is dead because social is sweatier at this point. Like what’s the point of ranked then?? 343 is notorious for punishing good players for being good, but until they make social social and ranked, ranked. Then you’ll just always see this… It’s 343 that needs to step up and remove SBMM, it kills every FPS game.

Complete BS. People will team if there is SBMM or not, they do that because they want to play together.

SBMM is meant to make the game playable for everybody and not just for the elite.

Out of curiosity and frustration (and necessity, because I have friends who like to play Halo 3 casually) I made a smurf. The games were hella weird and funny because it was total noobs and other smurfs farming out of their minds. Some games seemed like they had more smurfs than noobs. Seems like Big Brother matchmaking catches up pretty quick though.

By the way, I don’t think smurfing is a good thing and I do believe in light SBMM. Just don’t match people together from opposite ends of the bell curve and that’s it. Honestly, much worse than SBMM is the team balancing thing where players are supposed to be carried (i.e. be helpless K/D farm fodder) or carry. Not fun for either category.

Well, that ‘curve’ is already big. I have had matches with people ranging from onyx-gold2 and diamond6-silver4. That range is already huge from time to time (and both these examples where during peak hours)

That is not a problem with the team balancing (because worse then being helpless and be carried is being helpless and no chance of winning, and worse then having to hard carry is having to hard carry and having no chance to win), it’s a problem with the huge individual skill gaps.
The real problem with team balancing is that it most of the time does not balance teams and steaktaculars are very common. There is a lack of balancing.

I mean, I can guarantee that if I search solo, I will find teammates that have never touched the game before and I mean that in a literal sense. I’d say that the standard deviation of the bell curve has diminished already and 343i does everything in their power to make that gap wider. The opportunity for new players to discover a Halo game is gone unless they know someone that already plays it.

What’s the other option search for hours in ranked? Play customs with ourselves?
