I’m not complaining, but does anyone else think that the reward for max rank in Halo 5 should be more than an armor coating? This has been the hardest grind yet in Halo, I mean Halo Reach gave you a haunted helmet. That in my mind was worth getting to inheritor. Again I’m not complaining I’m just curious on everyone else’s thoughts. I personally don’t think a shiny (easier target) armor coating isn’t enough. It’s only an opinion, again, but the hardest grind yet should include more in my opinion. I’m happy we get something but I’d like a piece of armor even in Halo 5/ Infinite if it was up to me. What’s everyone else’s opinions?
I’m not saying I’m entitled or anything but putting everything into consideration I believe we deserve more than an emblem in Halo 5 and an armor coating in Halo Infinite.

The reward IS more than a armour coating…
We know that you currently get the Watchdog armour & weapon costing.
Included in that very same article is a statement that says there are more rewards for 152 players that we’re not ready to reveal yet.
Side note, you’re able to edit your original post instead of double posting

The only reward for SR152 at this time is the Mantle emblem in Halo 5. The Armor Coatings and any other potential rewards in Halo Infinite should only be viewed as potential rewards for the final rank in Halo 5 as Halo Infinite is still in development and things may change.

I like the colors so I’m happy with it, if what someone here posted earlier is true there’s apparently more. They did say it was just a “small token of appreciation” or something to that effect, frankly speaking I’m of the opinion they’ve over delivered on this one which is great.
Because this game is a new engine, new redo of Halo on a clean slate I think only subtle nods will be given. This games for the newer generation to play and for veterans of the series to enjoy grinding in. I don’t think its as a big deal because its so hard for the average gamer.
Well, I think it would have been underwhelming if they announced this award years ago, but it was more of an afterthought in order to make up for the emblem reward in h5. Since they only announced the coatings recently, its a nice way to reward those who have put in the time into H5 this whole time. For people who are low rank and now want to go for max rank… it’s going to be much harder for them to do it in time before Infinite. So for them, yes the reward seems paltry. For people who already put in the time before the rewards were announced, they weren’t necessarily expecting it therefore the rewards are enough. At least that’s my perspective on it.
I’m going at the RS 138 level of 74568/115000 EXP. I ask if I can do it.
Those are just the two that are announced.
They hopefully will also include early access for a few days before official release and a few XP boosts, that would be AWESOME
My wife and I both enjoy the armor coatings. So we have our sights set on 152. It’s all on personal taste really, but to take to the socials and say you don’t like something you get for free just for playing is a bit shallow. I will concede that what you get might not be for everyone or everyone’s cup of time. But I think to take it to the forums and other social outlets to discuss your distaste is a bit pretentious. You’re playing a video game for a long time, achieve things, get things done… and now, that game maker comes out with a new game and wants to reward your loyalty, and all you can do is complain about it and bite the hand that feeds. It’s free, and you get it for playing a video game; use it or don’t use it.

You kind of summed up my thought too. Those who sit at the top won’t really be affected by what awards they give out. To them it’ll be a nice token of appreciation.
It’s really all those below who are trying to hit the summit and realize, this is what we’ll get? My biggest gripe isn’t the reward to be honest, it’s just the sheer mountain you have to climb and time you have to spend to hit it; then people will say “if you’re not willing to put the time, you don’t deserve it”. I completely agree I don’t deserve it haha. And I definitely won’t lose sleep over something like this.
I think if I was 5-10 years younger, I most likely would have more “fire” to go for it; at this point of my life, I feel like I would rather spend my time on other things.

Yeah same sentiments here. Honestly if it wasn’t for covid my 27 yr old self wouldn’t have had the thought or drive to go for it, so I sunk in a ton of hours during the beginning of the pandemic until I realized the insane uphill xp grind. Once fully understood the amount of days it’d take me to get to max rank, I think I developed the “sunk cost fallacy”. Why quit now when you already put in these hours already? Lol. Its going to feel surreal once the grind is done.

Fortunately Covid has not affect my job or hours; I still work full time. So for me Covid doesn’t have any influence on my decision in not wanting to grind to the top. Free time hard to come by haha.
But anyways, technically you’re closer to the summit than me so yeah it would make sense to keep going. Godspeed Spartan!
I’m finally returning to the grind just for completionist sake, but like most players who started playing in month 1 I was already well over 10% there (a tad ridiculous but super XP weekends and Mythic WZFF make a heck of a difference).
I agree that the reward was absolutely trash for the grind, but really the whole ranking system was bland, armory over bloated and emblems insignificant and non memorable as a whole, so 343 was absolutely correct in saying that you should really only go for it if you at least genuinely enjoy at least most of the journey. I am glad and excited to see what they have planned for infinite, and hope hope its something akin to Haunted helmet from reach, but honestly I understand the desire to just move on from H5 to a degree and make MCC and infinite into the successful games they can still be.
Should be the H5 Crack Chief Helmet in infinite.
I’m happy with it. I’m kinda hoping they drop something extra for the few that hit 153 as well. Last i checked there were only 90 of them.
The Armor and weapon coatings are worth it in my opinion. Its my sole reason for the grind right now.
