So my team of 5 has been searching in Squad Slayer for about 30 minutes, and everytime we find a match, saying that we have five ‘players found’, it restarts the search. We moved on to big team out of frustration and now cannot find any players in that. What gives?

IIRC BTB and Squad Slayer are setup so that parties are matched against other parties.
Sounds like what happened in Squad Slayer was that you finally got matched to a party but they were looking to farm some randoms, so they immediately backed out when they saw they got matched against another party.

Squad is indeed set-up to match teams against each other, but once you are locked into a match, you cannot simply back out unless going to dashboard or turning the xbox off. after seeing the system ‘restart search’ about 20 times in a row, we got frustrated and went to big team, where you may find randoms frequently even with a team of five, yet not one person was found for another 5 minutes. I myself backed out and reset my whole connection along with my friends and it began working again and we soon were back to playing squad, yet I still don’t know what went wrong with the servers…
Try checking your NAT settings - are they all open?

Erm, this evidence points to something being wrong with your connection, not the servers mate.
Glad it seems to be sorted now. Always remember the saying: “Have you tried turning it off and on again?” Computers are stupid that way.
…yes we all checked our NAT settings and we were all open. we could play custom games, but the matchmaking system would not let us match up with others in matchmaking. we found at least 20 other squad teams but each time it locked us in with ‘players found’, the familiar ‘restarting search’ message would pop up and we would lose the team we found. very frustrating and inconvenient
I suppose restarting my connection was what fixed it, but initially there was nothing wrong with my connection, nor my teammates as we were able to play games and talk amongst ourselves while waiting for a game
