Squad mechanics

First of all I would like to say I don’t want halo to revolve around blue team. I want master chief and marines/ODST with the occasional spartan team up.

That at being said I like squad mechanics and think they would be fun. But how to implement them? Well first of all ditch the current D-PAD for just one grenade swap button. Then if you looked at a marine and held any of the D-PAD buttons down then that marine would be added to that “Fireteam” then you could order around 3 fire teams through the D-PAD. This way you can choose to spread your marines out through an area. Or choose to concentrate them. You could tell marines to man vehicles or stationary weaponary. think of Halo 2’s great journey when you were fighting with hunters. What if you could have told Hunters to move up first so they could absorb damage. Or what if you could have told your marines to fall back when hunters showed up so they wouldn’t needlessly die. In Halo CE in the beggining of “long night of solace”(I think that’s the mission, the night one). What if instead of your marines moving up when the covenant returned fire, you told them to move up. And you could tell them to hold the high ground and not charge the covenant like they usually do.

Maybe this is too complicated but if squad mechanics are not fleshed out. Then I’d rather them not be in the game.

I dunno. This sounds like something that was done in another game. If so, then forget it because Halo can’t copy other games. It’s against some kind of law.

Actually, I like the idea, but you’re gonna get a lot of, “It’ll make the game too much like X, and if I wanted to play a game like X I would just play X”

I mean it’s optional. Just like using squad mechanics in halo 5 were. I mean in halo 5 you would either have useless AI or useless AI tbf.

I agree. If they show up like they did in Halo 5, then I think I’d rather not worry about them at all.

I wouldn’t mind it, same as H5 but with marines and a little more in depth

I didn’t like the squad idea in Halo 5 at all. I thought it was poorly done and AI squad members are just dumb. Levels built around squad game play and such just felt… Boring and easy. It just took away from that Halo feeling of you against the world that the older games had. I would get ride of it completely to be honest.

What I would do them is something like what Halo 3 did. I think the game should be just the chief, but you can play the story with up too four players. If your friend wants to play, then one of you is chief, and the other is a member of blue team.

Then the game plays something like this. Level one, chief has to go to x. If you’re playing by yourself, the chief would tell blue teams he’s going to x and he’ll meet them there or something. Now, If you’re playing with a friend and let’d say they pick Fred. In that same scene now the chief tells blue team that him and Fred are going to x. Stuff like this. Maybe levels can even have branching paths where wherever you go the other members go the other way or if you’re playing with all humans you can choose if you all should go to one place or split up or whatnot. Maybe not going the one way has consequences too, who knows… but I think you know what im getting at. More players you have playing the more dialogue and banter you will have between characters in the levels too.

This way Halo retains that “you against them” feeling that so many people like, but if you want to bring along a friend or two to help save the day, you can do that too. It’s the best of both worlds I think.
