Sprinting with 'A'...why?

Just don’t understand why we have to sprint with A on Bumper Jumper…feels almost like they want us to buy the Elite controller so we can map the buttons… Sprinting with ‘A’ on bumper jumper means moving your thumb off of the right stick and onto the A button constantly

In most FPS games, you can click the joystick to run…which would make more sense as its more natural imo…Am I the only one in this awkward position? I’ve gotten used to sprinting with A, but its not something I should be getting used to imo because it honestly feels like whoever made this decision is definitely doing it to push the Elite controller or remapping buttons in general(new Xbox dashboard lets you remap the buttons but I’m not a preview member so I can’t)…

& They know they did this on purpose, because they have the fishstick option which lets you sprint with the joystick but its different than bumper jumper. So its almost like they said “Pick one” instead of giving us bumper jumper players the most comfortable controller layout

TLDR: Bumper jumper & Sprinting with joystick/sliding with A >>>>>>>>> insert controller layout here …so why isnt this option included out of the box

So nobody has answers? 343 where art thou lol

I sprint with left joystick click…

Devil’s advocate: you can’t shoot while sprinting anyway, so it doesn’t make much of a difference. But maybe Dark Souls has just desensitized me from irritating control schemes.

It’s always been like this.

People sprint with A…? I’ve been doing with on the analog stick…

On Bumper Jumper you sprint with A.

If you’re a competitive Halo player you know what I’m talking about & you know why sprinting with A doesn’t make sense on Bumper Jumper, or any control scheme for that matter

I feel you Man. The problem with halo 5 is there are so many game play mechanics and There are limites buttons so some actions are tied to awkward buttons. I find that for every controle scheme there is at least one action tied to a weird button. Pretty much there is no perfect scheme and no matter which one you chose you are going to have to adapt. I have always played on bumper jumper but I am switching to halo 4 scheme for halo 5 because I NEED the left stick to be sprint and I also really feel like I need thruster on LB. Only problem is now I jump with A and crouch with B…

Here’s the thing though, you’ll have to untap A and move your finger back to the right joystick to aim

whereas bumper jumper with a left joystick sprint would mean your thumb never has to leave the right joystick, as the A button would now be the slide button. so unless you’re planning on sliding, Bumper Jumper + joystick to sprint is literally the best control scheme out there. because your right thumb will always be on the right joystick, giving you an extra split second head start on other players that dont have their thumb on the joystick because they’re busy clicking A. so my gripe is why do they make you choose between bumper jumper and fish stick when the optimal setting is a combination of both?

It’s been on a face button for Bumper Jumper since Reach, you’re a bit late for complaints. Get used to it or switch. It’s fine for me, never hinders my performance. Fits perfect.

People actually played Reach? That’s one of the least memorable Halo games. That and Halo 4. I don’t think I even spent 20 hrs between the two of them.

Ya do release you can strafe to stop a sprint? So there’s no reason why you wouldn’t have enough time to switch from A to the right stick. Press A to sprint, switch straight to right stick, strafe or walk back to stop. Any gunfight you’re in you should be strafing anyways, so if ya run into a firefight, it works fine.

Buy the elite controller and you can map the buttons to whatever your heart desires.

You guys do realize that every controller will have button mapping once the new update comes out… You DON’T have to have an Elite controller to map buttons. Well, at this point in time you do, but in a few days you won’t have to!

This is just for that button layout right? I mean there are options for button layout right?

You could also wait it out for a week or two - one of the new features coming with the next dash board update is supposed to be the remapping app for all controllers not just the elites

No problem for me, I use recon controls.
