Sprint

I know, I know. Everyone is taking a jab at sprint. I understand why people like it, it’s more immersive and fun for the casual player. It feels realistic. But that wasn’t halo multiplayer. Halo multiplayer wasn’t about being realistic, it was about skillful gun play. Now personally, I don’t mind having sprint in the game, I just don’t think it belongs in arena. Not because I hate sprint but because it’s just a gimmick. It was designed to attract people. Call of duty and battlefield (both good games) fans would be more willing to try a game that included sprint, it’s more welcoming in that way. But as sales figures have shown, sprint didn’t bring people in. The reason I say sprint is a gimmick is because it’s more of an illusion. It seems like you’re so bring as fast as you can and getting around the map faster but you aren’t. Take Truth for example. Truth is the Halo 5 remake of the Halo 2 map “Midship”, arguably one of the best multiplayer maps of all time. But the thing is, Truth is much larger than Midship. This is done to accommodate for sprint. Now sprinting seems to work, but it’s not. The time it’d take to sprint to the other side of Truth is the same amount of time it would take to walk to the other side of Midship. Now that he maps change. This means that there’s less cover so the CQC weapons, assault rifle and smg, neEd a range increase so they aren’t useless. With player speed and pacing of the game, TTK is increased and bullet magnetism are added in so that precision weapons, BR DMR Magnum, aren’t useless. Sprint changes the game. Again, I’m fine with sprint, just not in Arena.

Agreed

Sprint has become something that people are now accustomed to. I believe it to be a minority that want sprint to be gone. I think that if they removed it we would see even more of a sales and population dip. The vast majority of players today would think it would be way too slow and just not their style. Today’s fast past Halo is probably my favorite style Halo so far and I’ve been playing Halo for a very long time.

That would be true if a new shooter franchise entered the market that was being marketed to all new players. If you tell classic Halo fans that a new Halo game is being made that plays like their beloved Halo 3(not my personal favorite, but I prefer it over 5), it would sell so fast your head would spin.

Only because it’s been in Halo 4 and 5. If they never added sprint, people wouldn’t be “accustomed” to it.
Believe it or not, there are many FPS’s out right now that don’t have sprint, and are played by millions of people.

But you’re right that it would be a bad move to remove it completely. They’ve already established a new fanbase that’s accustomed to their new mechanics, so it would be suicide to just remove sprint at this point. But if they were to add in playlists that appeal to many of the “classic” players that left a while back, I think that’d be smart.

I don’t think it would be so detrimental to remove sprint entirely from Halo 6. You’ve got your fans that will buy any game with Halo on the box. They won’t be affected. Many of the “on the fence” customers are more likely to be swayed by other things(other games being released at the same time, presence or lack of split screen, LAN support, etc). The number of people that won’t buy a game if sprint is missing is far less than the number that wouldn’t buy Halo 5 because sprint was present. The anti-sprint crowd tends to be far more passionate about their stance, hence all of the anti-sprint threads that keep popping up.

True. We may never know. Unfortunately, I doubt 343i will every be convinced that sprint is a hinderance. They’re so convinced that sprint is “expected” in this game, which obviously is such bull. Lol.
As long as they make classic playlists at LAUNCH, then the sprint lovers can keep their gameplay. In my opinion, of course.

I never even thought about just taking it out of arena and leaving it in warzone. I’m all for that.

It’s really only sprint and clamber I dislike. Thrust, ground pound, and stabilizers could’ve been introduced into Halo as a more natural evolution than sprint, IMO.

Unfortunately, a classic Playlist is nothing more than a band-aid solution. It would not solve the ongoing issue at all (How long now, 6 years?).
Even if they did implement one as of now, it would cause 2 problems; the Playlist would appear as an afterthought and make the already dwindling original Halo fan population feel like they’re second class, and it would make 343 appear as if they have no confidence in their own “innovations” to Halo’s formula.

Sprint needs to go
