Sprint, yea to use. nay to AA

Halo is a game we all know and love. Even back in 1999, when it was first released as their cover game for the first Xbox, it was unquestionable that it was a game ahead of the curve in the modern industry of the franchise. Now, 10 years later, Bungie dropped the game in order to pursue other ventures in gaming, but not without making one game that adding to it among one of the most questionable features of the game: Armor Abilities.

Armor Abilities themselves, in my opinion, was never my concern (Personally, the Loadouts kinda took the fun out of looking for the AAs), but lately one in particular seems to be standing out in the forum and I wanted to put in my 2-cents worth on the subject. That AA is Sprint.

Now looking at the sprint ability, I hear a lot of different sides of the argument. Many of them happen to be very legitimate, while others are more out of an irate hatred for it. Some say it’s a detriment, something that should not be even listed as an AA, while others say that it is an invaluable tool.

When I look at sprint, it literally means to give a brief burst of speed while running. So instead of having it as an AA, here is something that may compromise both sides:

When pushing the analog stick forward all the way to perform the basic running action, the player can have the Spartan run for a brief period before it starts sprinting. If anyone has seen Section 8, you will understand what I mean. This can just be an automatic function without having to rely on a button, and the player can activate it even in the possession of an AA ability. For example, a person who has a running start can time their jumps to get across more wide open areas than a person who does not sprint could. If they use their jetpacks while running, it can make a player go even further than that.

That would only work if there was no cool down for anything and the “speed boost” was negligible at best.

No sprint with a higher movement speed is still by far the best option.

I imagine that Spartans would’nt know when to stop when they get themselves going, so a cooldown for such a thing would only last as long as you keep that analog stick forward.

Also, I’m not saying sprint should be some armor ability, so a cooldown would not even be considered, just as a mechanic for moving that activates under a certain condition. Plus, if you have a higher base speed, it would add the flair to it. Believe me, I was a bigger fan of Halo 3 than Reach because of the jumping height and running speed being significantly faster.

> No sprint with a higher movement speed is still by far the best option.

It’s not a good option or compromise! The reason people complain about it is because it gives you increased speed, and because somehow adding sprint copies CoD (how?) and Reach. These are unfair examples because as far as we know, it’s not Reach or CoD, it’s Halo 4.

Also, it’s not a compromise to increase the overall movement speed because everyone is doing it at the same time, so you might as well keep the movement speed the same. The point of sprint is to get a quick burst of speed, not to keep sprinting.

There is no good compromise except for the Halo 4 and Classic playlists. By “classic”, they are referring to the old Halos because 343i wants to start their own, new trilogy with Halo 4. It’s not Bungie’s game anymore, it’s 343’s. As it’s their first game, they want to try new ideas for the genre.

Shouldn’t we at least give the game a try? It hasn’t come out yet and we don’t know much about it at all. Judging a game from 30 seconds of gameplay is the worst thing you can do; you destroy your expectations and go in to buying the game and constantly think it’s bad, unless it’s extremely good.

343i are trying to cater to the newer Halo players and “veterans”. They want to add new ideas into the franchise, and I for one accept them because I don’t want the same game as Halo 3. I already own it. Why would I want a game that I already own? It’s a waste of money. A recent example of this is MW3 where many people refuse to play the game because it’s just the same, if not worse than MW2. I don’t want Halo to go down that route where it comes to the point where it is just the same game with shinier graphics. It isn’t worth the time or money.

As I said before, people should give Halo 4 a chance. We don’t know much about it and we should at least give it a chance.

> I don’t want the same game as Halo 3.

Not one person is saying we want Halo 3 again. What we are saying is we don’t want Reach 2. We want 343 to take the basic Halo game play and add to it not remove it. Which adding sprint or any other AA does.

It’s been said before and I will say it again, there is not one legitimate reason for sprint to be in any Halo game and there never will be.

I don’t really want Sprint either, but I wanted to prepare for a worse case scenario as I’m sure that some features may be returning in Halo 4, and sprinting is probably no exception. Whatever 343i puts in, I will put my faith that they have put their best foot forward into it. I’m an avid Halo fan, read the books, got all the different consoles and their special editions and alot of memorabilia. The one thing I am really glad about is the fact that they revealed so early that they are not recycling maps like Reach did (Bungie you lazy ######)
