SPRINT Wont Kill HALO

Why is everyone so against sprint all of a sudden?? because it wasn’t in some Halo games 10 years ago?? this is 2014, and if the Game didn’t have sprint, everyone and their momma would be crying about it saying it feels old and slow, which modern FPS Games don’t have Sprint these days? its a good feature, and it feels right for FPS, why leave it out of Halo when it is supposedly a top FPS Game?

there is no way they couldn’t add sprint in this day and age of Gaming, they are trying to move Halo forward, not backwards

If base player movement and maps are done right, there really isn’t a need for sprint though.

I feel people don’t understand why sprint is different in halo. In a game like cod or battlefield sprint helps speed up game play and favors the stronger player because the weak players use it at unnecessary times, and because kill times are so low in those games you can kill quickly right then and there. In halo however when a player sprints they can use it to escape because it takes time to kill a player, therefore letting weaker players avoid firefights or live a situation they should have died in.(slows down gameplay and favors weak players)
solution?Instead of having players not regen shields, have them stop sprinting completely so they cant escape.

The copy and paste is real, ive said this 4 times today.

EDIT: someone also suggested sprint just be a speed boost, halo is run and gun, not run or gun

Have you played Halo 2 on the Master Chief Collection? did you try to sprint right away? i know i did, and those maps where done right, but it still felt old, thats what i was trying to point out

I have, but for a Halo game, I don’t really think of sprinting, it’s just not a thing in my mind.

I guess I am missing the point, or is it the fact that modern shooters need some sort of sprinting?

Sprint speed should be slowed to standard run speed while taking shots. Doesn’t that solve the problem of players running away. Now, if you’re hitting someone while they’re “sprinting” and they still get away, it’s no one’s fault but your own.

My point is that most modern shooters have sprint, i can see why they added it to Halo, if they didn’t Halo would feel old and antiquated

They may now thrust into safety as well, but that’s only one action and it’ll be on cooldown for abit. I’ve also seen a comment that getting hit would cancel your sprinting and you’ll need to wait 0.5 seconds to turn it on again.

That may be, but Halo certainly didn’t need it, pressing a button to move faster but sacrifice your ability to shoot does not have to be a must have function. You technically are sprinting by tilting the control stick as far as it can go heh.

That just seems like a silly thing to think with regards to sprint.

I feel like an idiot lol, I meant to say stop sprinting when shot . So yeah I agree

“All of a sudden”???

You must be new here…

A lot of people debate whether spring lowers the skill gap and whether it enables bad players to get away with making bad decisions, etc. I am not as much concerned with this but rather that sprint makes the maps to big and I think I have a problem with that. Narrows is one of the longest range 4v4 maps in Halo 3 (If I was competitive in Halo 2 I’m sure I could think of a similar example) but even Narrows had its short/mid range BR areas. When you play Halo 4, almost every battle is long range because for sprint to be relevant/balanced, maps have to be significantly longer/wider to account for it. The only benefit of sprint that I see is it allows you to get from point A to point B faster. This matters in CoD/Battlefield because the maps are way bigger because you die so much quicker, but sprint in Halo doesn’t allow for the same “Arena Style” gameplay that we’ve all come to know and love. Arena style means fast pace, close-ish quarters, and that works perfectly without sprint. Compare Midship to Heretic to the new H5 Midship. H2 and H3 maps were nearly identical and both flowed really well whereas the H5 midship looks so big, with a lot of wide open spaces. This can be seen in Halo 4’s The Pit remake as well. That map had to be so unbelievably big to account for sprint that it really ruined the map.

This debate has been going on since Reach.

So games should sacrifice their integrity, niche and image in order to implement features used by other games?

Because conforming game mechanics and features thus making similar experiences is moving the game and FPS genre as a whole forward, rather than stagnating it.

Indeed they have, and whenever I make a point about not having sprint in Halo, I do so with regards to the already established gameplay set by previous games.

Sprint is a design choice that impacts the gameplay, non-regen health is as relevant as regenerating health. Duke Nukem Forever I’ve understood didn’t magically become a better game with it’s regenerating health and two weapon system, despite those being “modern”.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QYQb_iGiWrOUyCe6L9FsH5Xkbumtzm5lhmIzS43RTH8/mobilebasic?pli=1

(sorry don’t know how to make it a link)
That document explains why sprint is bad fairly early on, and is a great read nonetheless. Honestly if we MUST HAVE sprint, there are two MAJOR balances that need to be made and I hope 343 gets this message from pro feedback or from reading the forums.
These two balances are:

1-Shield doesn’t recharge while sprinting (For obvious reasons and 343 has already implemented)
2-De-Sprint. If you get shot while sprinting you stop sprinting. Simple. It promotes smarter, more calculated uses of sprint and helps manage some if the problems mentioned in the document (I.e players will be punished for making stupid in game choices/rushes, as they should. And maps will not need to be as large to accommodate, they will however have to be a little bigger because sprint is still there. Also map control and positioning will becoming more prevalent as it was in H1-3)

It alreday put Halo in a coma. Halo used to have hundreds of thousands playing at once. Since sprint we are down toa couple thousand
