Sprint was cut from halo 2

Just saying.

What is interesting is that some of the animations are similar to Halo reach and Halo 4.
Coincidence, I think not.

Just to clarify: I did NOT make the video.

“Removed for pacing issues”

…I feel like I remember saying something like that before.

I don’t think the anti-sprint crowd cares whether or not it was intended to be included earlier in the franchise. It does bring up an interesting thought about what the reaction would have been back then and what effect it would have on the franchise’s fans today. Alas, we will never know.

Well my friend you sure deserve a cookie. Not just for finding and posting this but for starting a war with the anti sprinters… I applaud you good sir

My intention is not to start a.war but to compare animations and balance.

That dual SMG flip off though.

Yeah, halo 2 multiplayer maps were too small (except maps like blood gulch remake). Campaign could have used it though.

I just hate some of Bungie’s internal jokes. This and the mooning.

if sprinting were introduced with Halo 2, it would have been interesting. On the one hand, it would have been at a time when the series was still finding its stride, and so it could have been forgiven as part of the other changes H2 introduced. On the other hand, sprinting combined with the dual-wielding and vehicle hijacking could have proven too much for some players to accept. Personally, I’d have probably embraced it since I was only 18 when H2 came out and kids tend to go nuts over games becoming more fast paced.

I never knew this and find it pretty interesting. Thank you for this OP.

Honestly they should have put sprint in halo 2, then maybe halo 3 would have had it and it could have been something fun.

You’re welcome.

So sprint was shelved but duel wielding, no AR, no scoped pistol, wimpy grenades, and limited range shotgun happened. Not to complain it’s just amazing that people talk about the core gameplay when HCE and H2 are vastly different in so many ways, but then again looking at just H2 and H3 completely blurs the objectivity of so many.

1. This is modded content, gamecheat modded Halo 2 to get that data on xbox.
2. This belongs in the Halo 2 section.
I’m sorry but prepare for a lock and a ban, its the way the rules work. Sorry.

Firstly, its H2Vista. The sprint animation was in the files, he just need to bring them forward.
Secondly, there is no Halo 2 section, besides the Classic Halo section, where the Sprint conversation doesn’t exist.
Its interesting though, say Halo 2 did have sprint, I doubt any fuss would of been made, and it would’ve been revolutionary back then. Now-a-days, Sprint is literally -Yoink!-.

Or alternatively an even bigger fuss is made since during that time period arena shooters and games without sprint were the expected norm and not the exception.

At any rate, six years and two Halo games went by before they finally decided to add sprint. I’d concede the “they left it out of Halo 2 because of time constraints” argument, but that doesn’t explain why neither Halo 3 nor Halo 3 ODST had it. Obviously they decided it wasn’t a favorable idea at the time.

Yeah, Bungie dev of the time commented on r/Halo in response to this video, said it was removed because of pacing issues. Also said that the idea never came up during development of Halo 3.

Oh well, sprint is here to stay. Have heard that if there is enough demand for it, there may be playlists without sprint in Halo 5. That would be great, as playlist numbers will prove what is more popular, Halo without sprint, or Halo with sprint.

That H2 sprint looks like it would of prevented a decade of campy BR snooze fests. All the problems with H3 would of been averted since it would of had to use Hitscan and might of had a better slow base movement speed complemented by that awesome sprint.

I seriously doubt a button enabling you to move faster at the expense of your combat abilities would magically solve bad weapon balances and map issues.

No weapon would have been forced to be hitscan because of sprint. Projectile issues in MM has been due to the netcode and packet losses.

Then a slow movement speed would have impacted strafing in a negative way. Slow enough and strafing would be useless. Then again, I have no idea what you mean with “better slow base movement speed”.

You can add sprint to Halo 2, I’m still just going to camp S3 on Lockout and sword/shotgun anyone who tries to come up.

Maybe you’ll make crossing mid less perilous, but that’s about the only thing that will change.
