Sprint- The Beggining of the End

Sprint…I bet you that one word brought so many emotions to your head right now, whether they are good or bad depends on your point of view. Still though its funny how one simple word, one simple mechanic can cause such chaos to what was once a great community. Sprint has been a staple mechanic for the past Halo titles and with it, came a lot of hateful commotion. I wont go into detail on why we need or don’t need sprint, rather I will let you guys detail them for us so we can see through the others perspective, and let us, as a community (albeit a small fraction of a community ) decide whether it is right for the future of Halo, because if this never gets resolved then chaos will consume the community until there is nothing left, until we become a shell of what we formerly were. We need to make a stand before it gets to late and we need to do it quickly.

Now before I begin this discussion I want everybody who plans on participating(commenting) to LOOK AT IT THROUGH BOTH PERSPECTIVES. With all that being said here goes nothing…

So firstly why do supporters of Sprint believe it should stay with the the future titles? Any why do anti-sprint supporters believe their way is better?

Because sprint is fine and who cares

Ok then who cares? So then that means that you wouldn’t care if it was removed I’m assuming?

Do we really need another sprint thread? Nothing is going to be resolved. It is nigh impossible for someone to ‘remove all their biases.’ In addition you claimed you would detail the positives and downsides of sprint and did neither.

I am making this thread to try and get at least a small consensus of where the community stands, if this thread becomes another huge argument on whether it should stay or not…then I think that is a sign that its to late to close the wound.

Sprint is the devil? Great. Before I know it you’ll tell me that Jesus warned us of 343 in the Bible.

copy pasted from another thread.
sprint we can never have our classic maps the way we know and love them. Truth is a perfect example. Go back to midship and heretic, there the map that truth is a remake of. In midship and heretic its all crammed but it plays well with the shotgun in the middle and sword with it. But truth has barely any cover compared to midship and heretic. Truth is super wide open and awkward and it’s just annoying to play. Sprint ruins any hope of us getting our classic maps in their full potential. Instead it’s just half as good as it used to be.

I personally don’t mind if we have sprint or not, but as long as it exsists we can never have our classic maps the way they once were.

Facetious Statement: If Reach, H4, & H5 never had sprint, then Halo would have 100 billion people playing it currently (not CoD).

Well with sprint that definitely wont be a possibility as the maps will be up-scaled which in turn could lead to larger sight lines and a very different overall map experience.

Um, when. You said sprint, the first thing that came to my my mind was, why is someone making another one of these posts.

But I thought there were only 6969 people in the entire world?

Sprint doesn’t have a place in Halo, and neither do newcommers who say we need it because all of the other FPSs they’ve played have had it.

The entire topic of sprint needs to be buried. That thread has been on the forum’s front page for days when there are a lot more important topics that have been glossed over, like discussions about the upcoming Firefight update, future playlist additions, story discussion, or sandbox talk. It’s gotten a ridiculous amount attention as if it’s the number one problem with the series right now when it’s really not.

Well appearntly it is the number one issue since there are topics on this daily, in fact I support whit what you stated “there are a lot more important topics that have been glossed over” but nothing else seems to see the light of day as long as this sprint topic is around and frankly I dont think this issue going anywhere for a long time. That is why I am trying to build a consensus on the topic so everyone can so everyone can stop arguing about it. And I know its a long shot but even a small agreement between fans can go a long way. If it were up to me sprint would be gone, I really dont care about trying to attract new fans, people come and go no biggy, only the true fans stay, and the fact that sprint ignores all of its older fans wishes really irks me. Also the whole topic has undoubtedly fractured this community as a whole, thats another big no no and thats another reason why I believe it should go.

If I had a drink for every sprint thread, I’d be dead in an hour.

I will say that although I agree sprint doesn’t have a place in Halo, I somewhat disagree with the newcomers statement. I mean yeah it is a vital part of producing a game to attract newcomers but only when your game isn’t established or is new to the gaming scene, and that wasnt the case with Halo. Halo was already a well established game with its roots enveloped in all other future FPS games (whether they be Halo or not). There was never any need to garner new fans attention as the franchise already had a huge build up of like minded individuals.

Yes you would

I dont care much but if I were 343 right now I would take it out no questions asked. With sprint its 2/3rds Halo and 1/3rd some other game no one has ever played befor.
Pros

  • good advertizing for new fansCons

  • Wiped out about 8 million fans - Changes map desingns compleatly (no classic maps acept for BTB) - Makes the game a little to fast (kinda like cod but i wouldnt go that far) - Does not fit in a Halo game - This and spartan abilitys limit map design and the maps in the next game will probably seem the same. - Thrusters make it to where there are no places on maps where you can fall off becuase it would be anoying to just thrust off the map every 5 seconds. This can be replaced by walls but walls destroy sight lines. - Ground pound makes it to where the maps have near the same verticality because they do not want to make it overpowered or underpowered - Sprint because every map is more the shape of a square and not a rectangle because the verticality and they do not want any maps to feel as slow as previous titles.Nutraul

  • Speeds up game play (if you make an atempt you can get used to any speed of a game within how fast vod is and how slow battlefeild is trust me) - Makes you feel like you get from spot to spot faster (again anyone can ajust to either of these)I dont care much either way its just a different game and honestly i miss the old games :frowning:

-I wouldn’t say it wiped out 8 million fans as the fan pop dwindled over time, but I will agree it did wipe a good portion of fans

-Map design definitely has to be altered to accommodate for sprint, there are still potential for amazing maps but its a hell of a lot more difficult as balancing maps because a big issue when designing them.

-Halo was always a fast paced game it’s more or less the same as before, maybe slightly faster. No where near cod levels though

-It doesnt fit a Halo game gameplay wise, lore wise yeah. But then again if we were to add all the lore into the game then we would get an absurd titanfall-esque game(not to hate on titanfall btw)

-Spartan abilites are a whole different beast, I want to keep this topic sprint related

And yes I really dont see another pros besides advertising to a modern audience it really makes no sense in my eyes. Call of duty has already cemented itself as the run and gun shooter and I think it would be a smarter option to try and stray away from its formula to attract players that don’t like that formula. And again competing with COD normally doesn’t work out to well. And to make matters even worse it seems as people are becoming sick of the COD formula which further supports the notion of removing sprint.

I would really like to hear what a pro sprint person has to say about all the mentioned topics.
