There has been alot of controversy surrounding the sprint feature in the recent Halo titles. Some have declared that sprint really enhances the gameplay while others have stated that it breaks the gameplay on what halo is as a whole. So I’ve taken the liberty to come to you and try to discuss the pros / cons and possible alternatives of sprint.
So lets start with a a list of the pros and cons then move on to possible alternatives. Then at the end feel free to discuss your opinions on the matter.
Pros:
Speeds up the pace of gameplay allowing for more frequent firefights.
Shortens the time to go from point A to B. Either retrieving a flag or assisting a teammates call for help.
Allows for faster and easier access to certain areas via sprint jump.
Some repercussions help balance sprint by being wise and knowing when to use it,
Being shot while sprinting slows you down
Delay on bringing up weapon after sprinting
Cons:
Devalues the size of bigger maps
Devalues the use of vehicles on bigger maps.
encourages more players to flee from combat,
Player doesn’t get first shot so they retreat to the nearest cover
Scares off players at a distance because they don’t know where they are getting shot from.
In close quarters too many players are more frequent to just sprint at you to either stick or double melee you.
Smaller maps seem to be more chaotic with poor spawns,
After killing someone they’ve instantly respawned and have sprinted to you in just a few seconds.
Alternatives:
Reverting sprint back to an Armor Ability.
Having spartans that weigh a ton sprinting everywhere around the map constantly doesn’t seem practical.
A small increase to the spartans jogging speed would seem more practical.
Sprint should be viewed more as a temporary speed hydraulic module than a default game mechanic.
Would balance out some of pros and cons by making that an advantage from your choice of AA.
With sprint as an AA the “thumb stick” can now be used for crouching and melee is back to the “B” button freeing up the “RB” button.
With a freed up RB button that could indicate a return of equipment.
With equipment now incorporated into ordinance drops and spawned on the map it would add more variety and strategy to the gameplay.
Closing Notes:
I believe sprint does have a place in Halo but should not be so free to use.
Return of the bubble shield would really add some fun times across all of Halo’s game modes.
If there’s something you would like to add or constructively argue with feel free to discuss what the next Halo could benefit from.
Got nothing against it but being able to run freely is the only problem for the reasons you stated.
I also find having sprint freely makes the use of thruster pack even less useful because you can just run away to cover anyway so you have to use thrust aggressively because it doesn’t work as well when you can sprint for free.
> I say sprint should remain as a default ability, but we should have more control over its behavior in custom games.
I agree with this post entirely. I love the ability to sprint. It is more realistic to what Spartans can actually do.
As a side note, I use mobility and I will say it is VERY cheap. Infinite sprinting is over powered and should be taken out of the game, however, even though I don’t agree with the infinite sprinting, I will keep using it until they decide it is wise to take out.

I think it should stay as it is after all it is useful just lower the speed as you said or make the maps using reaches design which worked fairly well IMO
Also there’s no way I’m going back to using B for melee no way
On the sub topic of armour abilities you could have a button on the D-pad alternate between the equipment picked up as was the H3 equivalent of AA’s and actual armour abilities
I just don’t know anymore. We don’t want armor abilities but the sad truth is, they will always be there now. So theres nothing i can ask for other than I hope I do suck in Halo 5.
Im not a fan of sprint we should just get faster movement instead. Sprint leads to ppl making bad decision and then running away from a fight which is very annoying.

You can’t really use the word we as on referring to everyone I for one love them as do many others
> Running away is a tactic. It adds another dimension into the game.
When everyone is running away it feels more like people just do it as a reflex rather than a tactic. Let’s face it alot of players don’t play strategically, they just meander the map shooting anything that moves.
> Running away is a tactic. It adds another dimension into the game.
To an extent, yes. However, the more people are allowed to run away from situations, the less bad decisions are punished. The better chances you have surviving from an encounter you are losing, the less you have to think about how you move and expose yourself.
You see, if you end up in a situation where you need to run away, it’s your own fault. You got yourself into a bad position. Of course, you should be able to survive by balancing that bad decision with a good decision. But for that to work, getting out of the situation shouldn’t be any easier than getting into it. The player who made the better decision is the one who should have the advantage. In this case that advantage is having more health.
If the disadvantaged player chooses to escape, the advantage of their opponent is to be able to shoot the escaping player (or health in case the player is backtracking). When sprint is added, the advantaged player either has to move slower or not shoot at all. In either case, their advantage is smaller than it should be or even non-existant.
In short, getting out of a bad situation should always require substantially more work than getting into one. With sprint it requires too little work to get out, and hence the overall effect to gameplay is negative regardless of if running away in itself is a valid tactic that should be supported. The proper means of support just happened to be something that isn’t sprint.
