Look we all know that H5 is not a top Halo game. Halo needs to get back to its core mechanics. It needs to get away from sprinting and thrusting and abilities. It needs to get away from these remixed arena maps and get back to arena maps like Guardian, Lockout, The Pit, Construct… the list goes on and on. It needs to go back to the Numbered ranking system and get away from these placement matches because once somebody plays 10 games for placement they will most likely never play that playlist again. Just go back to classic Halo and you will see the population, community, and sales increase. The Halo community needs to come together and have a loud voice. 343 please listen if anybody even happens to see this post. We all know what Halo is and was and we need to get back to it.
Conviction noted and appreciated. Suppositions noted and appreciated and soon-to-be contradicted:
Not entirely sure what it is you’re trying to say about arena maps vs. “classic” Halo 4v4 maps, but I’ll take your word for it since I have no stake in arena game play one way or the other.
The idea that someone would play their qualifiers and then stop playing is no different than the idea that someone would hit 50 and stop playing, or rank lock at some lower number and stop playing. The only reason you would advocate for a return to the Halo 3 model of ranked gameplay is if you had absolutely no experience of all the things it did wrong and no experience of any of the ways people manipulated it and cheated it.
“Just go back to classic Halo and you will see the population, community, and sales increase.” That, sir, is a bold assertion. And one that cannot possibly be grounded in anything other than wishful thinking since there is absolutely no way to know whether or not it’s true. If I had to guess then I’d say that you’re implying what so many others before you have implied: that Halo 3’s 13 million player base is standing around waiting for the return of classic Halo and will catapult a new “classic formula” title to the top of the sales charts and the xbox live most-played list. A return to classic Halo might cause those things to happen, but if they do it won’t be because Halo 3 players are getting on board. Some of them never got off, and those that did are grown up now and have bigger fish to fry than a video game. Games are for teenagers. Period. That’s why they re-invent the formula with every new title. Who says today’s kids want the same things that kids wanted ten years ago?
So sorry for failing to come together with a loud voice, but this is the reality of Halo: pick any subject you like and you’ll find a division of opinion. That’s the blueprint for a failure to come together. It isn’t possible because no two Halo players can agree on anything anymore. I’m pretty much at the point where I feel like if we can all disagree in a civil way then that’s the best victory we can hope for. Sorry to rain on the parade.

I disagree. In the future, please try not to speak in all-inclusive terms. You are not the personal voice of the community and not everyone agrees with you. You have no way to support your claim that going back to classic halo mechanics (which one? they were all different?) would cause an increase in population or sales. It’s the equivalent of me giving you a cupcake and telling you that as long as you don’t eat the cupcake you will never be killed by a lion. There is also a massive sprint thread over in H5.
Hey man, I get your concerns, and I’m with you on this. I would also love for classic halo mechanics (from Halo 1-3) to come back but you gotta understand that the halo fanbase has mostly changed. Many of the original halo players have moved on, and now we are left with a new “modern” fanbase. 343 is trying to appeal not only to halo’s original players but also to many other types of players, and a whole new generation of gamers that demands a new style of gameplay to be satisfied. Gaming, in general, has evolved, and while halo’s classic mechanics were a revolution for gaming in the past, nowadays that kind of slower paced simple style of gameplay just wouldn’t work very well. But, while we, the players who liked Halo’s classic gameplay mechanics better, are a minority, I still wish 343 would have mercy on us and give us something closer to halo’s classic feel.
I just want to say that I enjoy the new Halo mechanics and abilities. Adds a new factor to Halo that I came to love. I understand that some original Halo players are so used to the old mechanics and no sprint or thrust, but arent game supposed to develop over time? I wouldn’t want a Halo classic mechanic ever time a new halo comes out where is the fun in that.

I agree.
