Most people will bash for this video even though he makes very valid points and has a strong argument. http://youtu.be/iedeG7SVPCE

After editing it, it double posted.
I’m a Favyn fan and I always appreciate what he has to say, but on the Sprint issue he has nothing to say that hasn’t already been said. And most of the arguments are subjective, unless you’re talking about the rarified air of highly competitive team slayer, and I’d argue that even there they’re still subjective. It all boiled down to “Halo never used to have sprint, therefore Halo should not have sprint now.” Fine, if that’s how you feel. I don’t. Whatever.
That video is absolutely terrible; not a strong or valid argument anywhere within it as far as I’m concerned.
So…he’s upset about sprint, and can’t get used to it? I like it. I hope it stays. That’s my reason, nothing else.
He can call it an illusionall he wants, but i still move faster when I sprint than when I don’t sprint. What a BdobbinsFTW video.

LOL mee too…
If I get from point A to point B, in Halo 1-3, in the same amount of time it takes me to get there in H5 sprinting… Then why does it matter, if its (almost) the same thing?
Favyn seems like a super passionate guy. However, in this case, like always, he tries to use subjective opinion as fact, and creates points that are easily refuteable. Enlarged maps would happen with or without sprint. Anyone with pacing issues would tell you that Snowbound was a godforsaken terrible map to play on in Halo 3. Same with Avalanche. Coag in Halo 2. The games have large maps. Sprint doesnt make that happen. It makes it slightly more dangerous to traverse small areas of the maps, but also makes it easier to get to combat in these large maps. The argument is a subjective one, pure and simple. And I am getting very tired of Favyn using the clickbait titles to get him channel up.

This exactly!
I didn’t watch the video but I’ve heard the “illusion” argument before and basically it boils down to stretched maps means sprint doesn’t get you to your destination any quicker. But that’s not why sprint is needed. Sprint is needed to make me go faster, not get somewhere faster.
He said why he doesn’t like sprint in subjective ways, but not once did he explain how it ruins the game.
Im confused if sprint is an “illusion” why do people hate it so much?

My thoughts exactly.
I don’t understand how he could possibly claim that crossings Valhalla (H3) without sprint takes the same amount of time as crossing Ragnarok (H4) with sprint. Ragnarok is a 1:1 remake of Valhalla, but with a mechanic that lets you move faster existing on only one of the maps, so how does he figure that you can cross both maps in the same amount of time?
He spent the whole video shouting, tripping over his words, repeating himself, and using rhetoric to disguise the fact that he actually has nothing of value to say. Sounds like Dobbins to me.
Well, a quick summary of his points.
-
Lore arguments tend to ignore the impacts on gameplay. Not everything possible in real life has to be possible in a game as well. Example, you can exit a car in real life but in Forza it would have no point. [Agree, more or less.]
-
Sprint requires the entire game to be changed around it and ultimately the end results are the same, therefore it’s a pointless illusion. [Not entirely true, not entirely false. Simplification.]
-
Sprint encourages negative behaviors like double melee rushing and fleeing fights. [Strongly Agree]
-
No sprint playlists are impossible because the game is built around it, removing it means nothing would work. [Disagree, Flawed Argument]
-
The “It’s not as bad as it used to be” or “it’s not as bad as you’re making it” arguments still fail to explain how it benefits the game. [Agree]
-
Sprint is just in the game for the sake of familiarity and advertisement, when really it would be just as easy to for the developers to exclude it and explain to the general public how Halo is designed around the lack of it. [Strongly Agree, I’ve seen other games do something similar in practice, example the game Dirty Bomb has tons of media explaining why hipfire is accurate, why you don’t need to aim down the sights even though you are able to, etc.]
“There is no spoon.”
Terrible video is terrible. Sprint is in halo get over it it’s pretty simple lol. Wait till halo 6 where you can actually have an opinion on if it stays or not. You’re just cluttering the forums with something no one can change.
As for the illusion, truth is bigger than midship that’s a no brainer. At the end of the day with the new abilities, I can grab the sword and be in the other teams spawn, before my team could get anywhere in midship. So no the maps do not feel stretched out. If you play the whole match without using the abilities sureee the maps will feel ginormous but that’s your fault. Yes they changed halo to make sprint fit in THEIR halo and it would not work in bungies halo. I thought we figured that out months ago lol
This guy straw mans his arguments so hard he may as well rename his channel to scarecrow. This is one of the most brain bleeding videos I’ve ever endured, and I’m only 3:19 in.
Also, the fact that almost everything he’s said that ISN’T a straw man is incorrect.
“You can jump further”
“No it’s not that same jump would have been designed to be made at BASE movement speed”
Except they weren’t. There are jumps in Halo 3 that you FLAT OUT cannot make, and on remade maps (though obviously not exact scale wise) You CAN make those jumps, and with better efficiency and combat flow to boot.
I love all the people who say “his arguments are subjective” or “he’s throwing his opinion out there like it’s fact”, and then turn around and say “I like sprint, it’s in the game, so deal with it!”
Double standards really do bring the worst out of people.
Sprint is awful for a Halo game, I dont need a video for know it.
