Since sprint is coming back, how will the energy sword work? The only two choices I can think of are
- Bring back sword block.
- Do nothing, and let the sword users sprint around the map beheading everyone.
Problem is, both those ideas suck 
Any ideas?

How do both ideas suck? your reaction time to slow to hit the melee button in time ? XD when sword block was around i had no problems blocking then shooting my opponent.
Have a delay before you can raise your weapon/melee when you stop sprinting

That’s the problem, it makes the sword underpowered in close quarters.

The maps are bieng designed with sprint in mind, if they scrapped sprint now, they’d have to redesign all the maps.
Decrease the sword lung range? By quite a lot?

Perhaps, but I still think it’s speculation until it’s confirmed by a 343i employee.

not really. not everyone is good at sword blocking its easy to fake people out if you actually think about what your doing instead of just charging in and swinging like people did in Halo 2&3.
Remember Reach is more methodical you have to put more thought into your encounters lol.
I love Reach, but there are so many cheap combos:
Sword + Sprint
Rocket Launcher + Jet Pack
Needler + Jet Pack
Sniper + Active Camo
Sniper + Jetpack (accessibilty to areas no one else can get to)
Am I missing any?

Its not speculation. Its game design 101. When you make a balanced and polished multiplayer experience you design the levels WITH every aspect of the multiplayer in mind. Hence loadouts, sprint whatever. So yes removing any abilities or loadouts would cause them to have to re do the entire multiplayer.
Thats why I cant stand the threads where people think if they get enough support 343 will remove the new stuff lol. its just never going to happen but they dont listen and keep making fail threads.

It is the other way around because of Sprint. Sprint in, kill, and sprint out (With sword obviously).

The beam rifle wasn’t in CE and Reach is before it. It wouldn’t really make sense for it to be in Reach.
