I’m not even going to discuss the obvious flaw with sprint in halo. With kill times as long as halo’s people use sprint to disengage from fights instead of using it for map traversal bla bla bla. This is incredibly obvious and anyone with even a baseline understanding of FPS mechanics already knows this.
What I would like to discuss is how sprint cannot function in arena style shooters like halo or quake because of the nature of their maps.
When you think of the 4v4 halo experience you probably think of maps like midship, wizard, guardian, lockout etc. These are small, arena style maps. These maps are incredibly fun to play on because of the flow the game has on them. This flow is achieved because everyone is moving at the same speed. The spacing of players stays at this perfect equilibrium. Could you imagine playing midship or guardian with sprint? It just would not work. If those maps came in games that had sprint, they would be considered to be awful maps.
Now think of Reach’s maps. There is not a single classic, amazing 4v4 map in the game. This is not the fault of the designers, it’s sprint’s fault. Plain and simply, sprint ruins every single arena style map. If the map sticks to oldschool arena styled design sprint destroys the flow. The game stops resembling an elegant, flowing battle and starts to resemble this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6Tp674-LBk&feature=related.
The other option is to create maps with sprint in mind(which is what most reach maps did). When you do this you end up with awkward, elongated maps which again have awful flow.

As I said in the other thread. These maps will not be remakes and will work with the armor abilities and default powers. Sprint WILL work.
why would you post this again are you just trying to start a flame war?
The maps will be designed for sprinting. You also slow down when you are shot which hopefully will balance it out. If you do not slow down enough when shot I agree the map design will go to -Yoink- as will Halo 4

343 is adding stopping power to weapons against Sprint.
What running away?

Ugh…can’t discuss leaks.
Let’s just say even with stopping power you’re still moving significantly faster while you’re sprinting and getting shot then you are when you’re just walking.
and besides, this thread isn’t even about that.
> As I said in the other thread. These maps will not be remakes and will work with the armor abilities and default powers. Sprint WILL work.
No.
Because it’s impossible. You can’t make 4v4 arena style maps that flow well with halo’s kill times and sprint.
That won’t keep 343i from shoving it down our throats.

Don’t forget instant respawns.

Why wouldn’t I?
It’s a valid discussion topic and was only locked because people were discussing leaks.

a discussion that is quite old

its impossible?
It’s coming back. Nothing we can do will stop this and the other changes coming to this new game.
Halo 4 is going to be playing like Halo 4
A lot of conservative fans don’t want to hear this but this is the truth. For better or for worse.
Besides, MLG is just going to take out everything that’s new in Halo 4 and call it MLG settings so that it will play similar to CE/2/3. If history repeats itself, this is exactly what will happen and they will strip everything that doesn’t work for competitive play. Thanks to custom game options and how 343 communicates with MLG, this is inevitable.
Or for once, MLG just does minor tweaks to movement, gravity, and jump. Not remove everything players use to convince casual players that they can play with the game’s full features and be skillfull at using them (regardless of how terrible or imbalance they may be). This will not happen for obvious reasons.

I still disagree.
Really, the only flaw with Sprint is that players run away from others right before they die. But this is fixed, as you will slow down completely if you get shot while Sprinting. If you’re fast enough, you can catch who is running away from you and get the kill. Easy.

I was playing the anniversary playlist in reach and i could run away without using sprint anyway

That’s the -Yoinking!- point of Sprint. To get away from your enemy.
Just because you see somebody doesn’t mean you deserve a kill.

the point of sprint is to have more mobility

That’s just not true.
