I noticed that in Reach, the Spartans pant excessively while sprinting, even when you just started. I hope in Halo 4 they don’t sound so loud. Why on earth would a Spartan need to sound so out of breath when running? They’re trained for this kind of stuff.
Yeah I find it kinda distracting as well. I hope the Chief doesn’t pant during the campaign.
Inb4 laughs when girl spartens sprint? xD
Well, distracting or not, it’s ultimately supposed to balance sprint.
It’s there so other people on the map can hear you (enemies).
I find that if you wear Astros (and probably turtle beaches) you can hear when someone is sprinting up behind you for the assassination. That’s why I think the panting is there, just for situational awareness and so that you can’t sprint up behind someone so easily for the kill.
Maybe Noble 6 was meant to be asthmatic.
brings realism to the game. Of coarse they are trained but they are human. It make you feel more like running is actually hard for someone wearing a huge suit. Im not saying the breathing is perfect, it can be toned down a bit.
I think the awareness aspect is what i like most about it. Someone who is sprinting can be heard so u have to sprint wisely when near enemies. If sprint wasnt in the game then it would be harder to judge someone field of depth when your not looking in their direction.
So in other words someone would run up to when you least expect it and smacks you before you can turn. Idk i like it because its more realistic. This is just my opinion though lol

You can hear the sprint panting with any decent or better sound system, headphones or otherwise. It’s definitely in the game to balance sprint.

It would be realistic if it was towards the end of sprinting, like as the metre goes down, the breathing comes. If someone’s breathing sounds like a steam train as soon as they start sprinting then they seriously need medical attention.
Instead of the panting, I think 343i should use other noises to signal that you are there in order to balance sprint. It makes no sense for a Spartan to have to respirate so heavily at the very start of their sprint. Panting should definitely be limited to the end of your sprint and its effect of alerting others of your presence should be largely replaced with clunky sounds made by your armour.

While this is the intended purpose of it, louder footsteps would have sufficed. On topic though, it’s already confirmed that the Spartans won’t be panting. Just watch the gameplay videos. Also, in the bulletin describing specializations, 343 said that while sprinting you would make a lot of noise (implying louder footsteps).

i agree no professional runner is out of breath at the beginning of a 5K run and a spartan shouldn’t be as soon as he starts running 10 ft
Balance. Spartans are top tier athletes and wouldn’t be breathing so hard so quickly but I believe it’s about balance. But you can’t say they wouldn’t be breathing hard after sprinting for awhile. I never got annoyed by the hard breathing and it has definitely saved my -Yoink- a few times, being able to hear sprinters and knowing their location thanks to my baller GoW3 Trittons. I hope Wetworks make your Spartan make nearly no sound when sprinting b.c. I’d run that all day errrr day.
That’s why you should invest in Wetworks.

if they were in a huge suit, you would think the breathing would be muffled by the helmet for other players. if they wanted to balance it, make footsteps louder.
I do find it distracting when I hear the female Spartans sprint and panting…Very.
I’d like it if you continually used sprint within a 30 second time frame your spartan would start to breathe heavily. The first time, not at all, the 2nd time it becomes noticeable, and the 3rd time he’ll pant like he does in Reach. On the other hand if you didn’t sprint in between these times for about 5 seconds then he would have time to catch his breath
