Hello, I recently discovered a video that talked about sprint in a different manner and I can say that it was at the very least eye opening. I did not know this, but when bungie created Halo 1 2 & 3, they used the Golden Halo Triangle. The golden Halo Triangle is simply Weapons, melee, and Grenade. Basically nothing should prevent players from doing these three mechanics, and right off the bat sprint prevents you from doing all three of these things.
What’s also interesting is that a bungie employee openly admits that the dual wield-able smg broke the golden Halo triangle, which is why they resorted to Assult rifle starts in Halo 3. He said that people had less initiative to use their melee, and grenades because of the dual wielding mechanic. You can’t throw grenades or melee while dual wielding, which changed the game. It messed with the golden Halo triangle, so they fixed the problem.
Bungie also knew there game was slow, that’s how it was supposed to be made. To compensate for the slow movement speed, they had props and map dynamics that sped up game play instead of sprint. They are…
Man Cannons
Teleporters
Vehicles
Think about it for a second… the man cannons on narrows, the teleporers on coagulation, and even the mongeese on isolation. We didn’t need sprint because we had other ways to move around the maps. Whats even more eye opening is that none of these props are on any of Halo 5’s real maps ( not counting forge maps or warzone maps.)
Just thought I’d share this, because i never see people bring anything new to the sprint in Halo argument…

things like sprint change the base formula, while things like vehicles are an extension of that base gameplay. when you exit the vehicle the base gameplay remains the same. while sprint changes that moment to moment gameplay entirely.
There is an argument to be made about sprint’s place in halo, but this isn’t the argument.
Why didn’t bungie, in their infinite wisdom, take out duel weilding all together in h3? Or add spartan abilities in reach? Mongooses don’t break the “golden triangle” when you cant shoot, melee OR grenade?
“Bungie knew their game was slow, so they tried to make it faster” also isn’t the most helpful point.
Idk, my 2 cents.

Halo Reach obviously is a spin off. Bungie didn’t use the same model that they did with original Halo. I already said that the mogoose is an extension of gameplay. Sprint is always there and changed things at every moment of gameplay.
I’ve said my stuff on sprint so many times before all I can say is we probably don’t need another sprint thread. These exact points have been brought up again and again and all angles have been debated - for reference, the 2000 post thread on the front page right now.
