Sprint Animations look COD-ish

I might get hate for this because it mentions cod but i could care less. Its something that stands out to me and its annoying how much the animations have changed from 4. I’m mainly referring to the BR and pistol running animation in FIRST PERSON VIEW.

> I don’t hate the game and I’m very excited about halo 5. Just think a few animations look gimmicky. I don’t hate sprint and i don’t think its bad for halo.

Now some animations in h5 look kinda bad in my opinion. The ones in 4 i thought were pretty good. Watch sprint with the BR in halo 4 and then watch some gameplay of h5 sprint with the BR (in first person). The h5 animation looks like the spartan is “having a jolly good time” and it bothers me. I just understand why the animations changed to resemble cod so much. Like its really crazy that they resemble each other so much. I was hoping that h5 was going to improve the running animations and make them looks more realistic but they didnt. I mean it is only an animation at the end of the day and i can live with is if i have to.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

Do you know why they look ‘codish’? because you cant really make a ‘different’ running animation, or atleast a sensible one. You could also argue it looks battlefieldish or whatever but sprinting is sprinting, you cant really change what it is or looks like dramatically without making it look silly

i think it looks fine

You can by getting rid of sprint and fine tune the base movement speed. That’ll be unique.

Actually I think the problem is they don’t look like CoD’s animation. Yes, I said that. Me of all people.

Here’s why.

Has anyone here ever held a rifle and sprinted? I have. You hold it in a low-carry and run, which is closer to what CoD has. You don’t extend your arms and hold the gun up to chest-height and run like in H5. H5’s animation looks a bit exaggerated though I’m not sure why. That coupled with the slow arm movement just looks…odd.

But on the list of things I care about, it’s pretty much rock bottom.

I don’t get why people think no sprint is unique to Halo. There were many other games without sprint back then, games like Quake, UT, Timesplitters, 007 Golden Eye and so on, the list is vast.

Bolded and also because Halo was the greatest of it’s breed.

Oh god. First it’s sprint, then it’s split screen, then REQ packs, then it’s shield noises, then it’s kill medals, then it’s Halo: Reach, then it’s firefight, then it’s textures and weapon outlines and lightening and now we’re back to complaining about sprint only now it’s the animation of the sprint. What is next? Complaining about the sound the Spartan’s footsteps make on dirt surfaces only?

OP, I don’t understand how people could nit pick every single small little detail like it actually matters in the scheme of things. It’s just an animation. It has nothing to do with Call of Duty, saying it does is a huge stretch which I can only assume you want to do to upset people. I’m waiting for someone to claim that Halo is ripping off CoD because both games shoot guns!

There are plenty of ways you can animate someone running but they’re all pretty similar so eventually they’re always going to look similar to other games. I think it’s fine because it’s just a simple animation and really not necessary to get all worked up over. But if it “really bothers you”, maybe you should just not sprint.

Yeah no id rather not get rid of sprint thank you very much

Getting rid of sprint and making base movement speed insane also isnt unique to halo…

Battlefront 1/2
Doom
Fallout
Unreal Tournement
Quake
Time Splitters
Pretty much every james bond game
Classic Metal gears
Wolfenstein

i could continue

Wouldnt the spartans have less trouble running as they do than a regular human like most cod protags would have?

That’s already been done and that’s slow and boring.

What do you think people complain about smart scope then?

People will complain against things are that inherently bad. Bad for the kind of game Halo is anyway.

When?

And it’s only slow and boring because you’ve bought into the illusion that sprint and the designs around sprint has done.

Except its not ‘Inherently bad’ its just bad in certain peoples opinions

IRL i dont know anyone who dislikes smart scope or sprint and im glad they’ve included them/

Doesn’t have anything to do with strength. Sure, a rifle probably has the same weight as a styrofoam cutout of it would to a Spartan but that’s not the issue. It’s unnatural. A human will never hold something out in front of them at chest-height while sprinting or carrying anything in general.

If there hasn’t been complaining about how players zoom in with their weapons in Halo games before, it’s an inherently bad thing.

You mean the first-person POV? With the gun moving about? It is more exaggerated than in Halo 4, but it doesn’t really affect anything. I mean, arms are swinging back & forth, so a steady gun would mean a more awkward looking run. In Halo 4, they held the gun down and had a more stiff-armed run, which didn’t look so much “sprint” as it did “jog”. I thought it looked like Farcry when you sprinted in the beta, but I don’t really play CoD.

Of all the CoD comparisons, this has to be the most deserving of a “really?” than any of the others. But I’m sure regardless of what game it is, or even if it’s in real life, the human figure running as fast as it can whilst holding a rifle is going to have a certain look. I don’t think they violated the trademarked Call of Duty sprint animation so much as they copied what a human being running with a gun looks like.

Bad is a subjective term that no one will ever agree on or ever have any sort of evidence for.

Back in 2001. You’re welcome to go there to play games from that era.

It’s slow and boring because walking across Blood Gulch is slow and boring. That’s all the proof I need.

Doom 4 wont have sprint
Wolfenstein the new world order doesnt have sprint
Fallout 4 wont have sprint

Why do you think new games have sprint hmm? because its better than not having it

ah that makes sense, so Spartans should hold it further down than they do.

Well no no it doesnt. Its a very vocal minority which want the zoom and sprint removed, the majority of halo fans i know either love it or dont have an opinion either way

Fairly sure I’ve already seen a thread about this. The way i see it is if people are complaining about stuff like this then their really fishing for problems and therefore the game is actually proving to be a solid and well designed product.

But on topic, really OP !! Don’t know if you’ve noticed but their aren’t really many ways of sprinting with a rifle and also why does it matter.

Bad is only subjective if you do not wish to believe in what is the truth. People talk about it, in doves, so it is reality.

And who said us fans want to keep playing old games forever? We want new games too.
You say walking across Blood Gulch, I say we were running and utilizing vehicles properly for one of the most ironic maps in all of Halo.

Although you could easily play a multitude of other FPSs if you want sprint so badly in a game.
