Sprint Sprint was a great addition to Halo, but as many other elements added to the game it was implemented in a “nooby” fashion. One major concern with Sprint is the ability to run away from battles, my proposed fix for this flaw is that if you get shot while sprinting you stop and revert back to normal speed plus you cannot sprint again for another 1.5 seconds. Halo Reach’s kill times are slow, but providing that Halo 4 kill times will be a bit faster running away from battles won’t be as easy as it is in Reach.
Evade
Evade is also another great addition to Halo since it gives you an opportunity to dodge grenades and requires great reflexes and skill to dodge such things. However, the cool down time should be increased so you have to “savor” whatever energy you have to Evade.
Quick Note on Strafing
Strafing is a part of Halo an should have more of an effect. It shows more individual skill on the players part just as button combos in Halo 2. And it gives the player an edge in fighting two people at once.

why not keep kill times the way they are and take sprint out? since the kill times are long you have plenty of time to run away. no gimmick needed

just increase the default walking speed back to what it was in previous halos so you can dodge grenades. no gimmick needed**

This is where I stopped reading.
There is no way to “nerf” sprint without removing the core mechanics of sprint. It wasn’t a bad idea from start, but sprint unbalances the triangle of “guns, grenades, and melee.” Guns and grenades are less effective because players can simply run away from a grenade or a fight, and the added speed of sprint encourages players to blindly rush in and double beat down.
What you are proposing is going to render sprint completely useless. Sprint in general is to make a quick getaway or traverse the map to get to your opponents faster. Making players stop sprinting once they take fire completely negates its purpose.
Sprint just won’t work in Halo, simply because there is no way for it to keep the golden triangle balanced and still feel like a sprint mechanic.

agree and agree and agree.
your ‘fixes’ are perfect. exactly what ive suggested in the past.
well said. T-UP!
i think the problem with strafing is currently strafe-acceleration. you shouldnt have to ‘build up’ speed, you should instantly hit max speed because that should be the ONLY speed for strafing.
> Simply put…Hell no this is not cod it is halo and to many people are trying to make it cod.
Evade and Sprint have nothing to do with COD. The Golden triangle is perfect, but what Im trying to accomplish is trying to add innovation, and movement is the least problematic of the “golden triangle” breakers.
Sprint and Evade should make a comeback exactly as they are, without the stupid activation and panting sounds in Sprint. They should also be customizable.
> Sprint and Evade should make a comeback exactly as they are, without the stupid activation and panting sounds in Sprint. They should also be customizable.
The panting sound is part of the risk/reward system that makes Sprint balanced. You trade your quiet movement and ability to shoot for the ability to move faster. There is also a cooldown so when you come out of Sprint you can’t immediately shoot or melee.
With a proper strafe there’s absolutely no need for sprint or evade, you eliminate all the problems/annoyances of sprint/evade, and you bring skill back into the equation. So I say, ditch all these stupid AA’s and bring back the strafe.

Ha can we do the same thing with the aiming sensitivity? Thanks:)

Not really. Strafing is fairly predictable even with faster move speeds. Combine strafing with evade and you would be a hard target to hit. It’s all about the variation in move speed and distance. When you strafe I know slight adjustments left or right will do. If I have to worry about you suddenly rolling 10 feet in one direction I may make mistakes and under aim if I think you are just going to strafe left but end up evading left.
> Simply put…Hell no this is not cod it is halo and to many people are trying to make it cod.
Honestly I think Sprinting was one of the greatest things added to Halo, because Spartans are supposed to be stronger/faster/deadlier then normal Humans, I think Spartans should be actually able to Run. Many games, not just cod, have implemented Sprint, is great for sacrificing the ability to fire/attack, for a moment of increased movement speed either for getting to battles quicker on foot, or trying to disengage from a battle. And for running away from battles, I think from a tactical, if you are out matched, I would rather run away from enemies ( retreat) so I can find a way to to more damage to them, instead of just giving them the another kill by foolishly running in, dieing, and respawning.
i like being able to sprint, and Spartans should be able to run at great speeds, not just have their walking speed increased, because Spartans are not out of shape and incapable of sprinting

Strafing is only predictable when the person strafing has a bad strafe. That is the majority of people that attempt to dodge using strafe.(IMO) There is a big difference between an average and good strafe. (IMO)

Have you never looked down at the floor while strafeing or spinning? Spinning is the funnyest, as you can often see your own -Yoink- because your legs turn that much slower than the rest of your body.

> i am not, Halo needs more to add to its gamsplay experience, and Finally Sprinting and evade allow you to escape, avoid, and engage in battles. Also I think Spartans should be able to at least sprint, because having your spartan only able to powerwalk through the entire game gets really repetitive in boring gameplay. Games naturally take ideas from other games to improve themselves, and I think a sprint feature was a perfect idea, because it temporally increases your movement speed at the cost of being ableto fire your weapon or use grenades. i don’t see what is the big deal with it. The only problem players have with it is that it was not in Halo 2 and 3, and that is an idiotic argument in itself. games evolve over time. Remember the first Halo is called Halo:Combat Evolved for a reason. Sequels (and prequels) need to feel different from previous titles and add more to the experiences, not just the same rehashed gameplay where “pros” just try finding button combos to take advantage of every other player.
