This may seem like a stupid question, but I was wondering what is considered a automatic weapon and a precision weapon. Im just trying to see what is the difference between the spray n’ pray medal and long shot. Also, does spray n pray count as a long shot for the commendation?

Well, automatics are anything that fires a round and cycles without input from the user aside from the initial trigger pull. Precision weapons are typically semi-automatic, requiring input from the user every time he/she/it wants to fire the weapon. Precision weapons also typically have a scope.
Examples of autos: AR, SMG, Storm Rifle, SAW, Suppressor, Chain gun, Plasma Turret.
Examples of Precision Weapons: BR, DMR, Magnum, Light Rifle, Covenant Carbine.
Thank you!!!

Precision weapons are anything that get instant kills from a headshot, aside from power weapons (like the sniper rifle and beam rifle). There are some semi-auto weapons that do not get instant-kill headshots (plasma pistol for example) and so it’s best defined this way.
Automatic weapons are the AR, SMG, Storm Rifle, and Suppressor. Again, power weapons (and turrets) are not included among them.

Yeah, I was just going for the general definition, not the actual one. Sorry about that.

Adding to that, you CANNOT get headshot medals or in any way get a faster kill with Auto Weapons.
Headshot bonuses and headshot medals are exclusive to Precision Weapons.
EG of headshot bonus: With the BR, you can hit 3 body shot burst and one headshot burst to kill. But if you don’t hit any headshots and only body shots, it kills in 5-6 bursts.

Actually, Halo 5 lets players kill enemies with headshots from automatic weaponry. There is a headshot bonus with such weapons as the AR and the SMG. It isn’t as drastic as the precision weapons, with their one shot head shots, but it does cut down on the time and ammunition needed to kill another Spartan.

This is correct, autos kill unshielded Spartans faster with headshots.

Wait, you can get a headshot with automatic weapon? Tbh, that doesn’t sound right.
Thanks you all!!!

Actually only the AR and the SMG give headshot bonuses when the enemy is shields down. Any other automatic weapon doesn’t. And if you think about it the AR and SMG are projectile weapons which would seem to do more damage to an unshielded spartan compared to the plasma or hardlight of covenant and prometheans.

You can’t get a headshot medal, it just does more damage. Ever wonder why marines are so powerful? They always shoot you in the face
You can also get a Spray N’ Pray with the SAW. I’ve gotten tons using an Answer.

Agreed. The Answer is the way to go if you’re looking for spray n’ pray medals (is there a commendation for it?).
Yes that is a medal Dan201.
Wait, Im getting confused. Can you or can you not get a headshot with AR or SMG
You cannot get headshots with AR or SMG

you can’t get the headshot medal by using the ar/smg but they will do more damage to the head.

Yes, but only by a few bullets, and considering how fast they shoot, only a few milliseconds less. And you won’t get the medal.
Automatic is any weapon that continues to fire as you hold down the trigger. AR, SMG etc. They can’t get general headshots, although I think there is a headshot multiplyer for some of them.
Precisions are headshot-capable weapons like the BR.
I don’t know the exact conditions for the medals but I imagine its for getting kills outside of the RR range.
