Spops too easy??

Oh and by the way, the answer to this question is yes! These are extremely short missions that resemble the length of MW2’s special ops missions. Let me just say that I really liked Spartan Ops when I first started. But then came a day when I was playing alone, and I died. And just respawned. No “mission failed” screen, no reverting to previous checkpoint, no penalty whatsoever! I couldn’t believe that Halo, the game that defined shooters, had become so extremely easy, and boring. I tried playing legendary immediately after, and it was a terrible experience. I was literally doing this the whole time:

rush, kill-as-many-enemies-as-I-can, die
rush, kill-as-many-enemies-as-I-can, die
rush, kill-as-many-enemies-as-I-can, die
rush, kill-as-many-enemies-as-I-can, die…

It’s not Halo unless there’s a challenge. That’s why legendary campaign is such a blast, it’s hard, requires good tactics, and also quick thinking and reflexes. And when you add a couple if friends to the mix, it gets even more fun, and you can really execute some crazy plans. This does not happen in Spartan Ops. Spartan Ops has many other flaws too, but I really don’t care at the moment, because there is a much bigger issue at hand. However, I think the repetition and unoriginal gameplay people are complaining about wouldn’t be a problem if 343i would just make it a challenge. Then, every mission, you would think before you ran into battle, because you know if you die, it’s all over. So I say all of this to say, this is recommendation for Spartan Ops:

-if a player dies, he/she can respawn on a teammate that is still alive
-if all players are dead, the game ends

This will give everyone what they want! The noobs will just team up with some friends and simply out gun the enemies, and the vets get what they want, strategic, challenging, and fun gameplay. I know probably isn’t an easy fix for 343, but if they can somehow implement these changes, it would be so awesome.

But what do you think? Do you agree with me? Is Spops too easy?

Add a set amount of lives
then its all about being the blaster.

It’s funny how in the same page we have another thread complaining about it being too hard XD

The fact that you can’t actually fail Spartan Ops is its downfall. At least there was some semblance of challenge with Firefight, where you had lives.

Now, it’s just a spawn-rush-die fest. I was INCREDIBLY disappointed that it didn’t have a checkpoint system.

Making the mission based around checkpoints would have easily extended it’s replayability!

Very few missions (I only remember two) are actually fail-able, such as the one where you have to save your Phantom from the other one/the attacks below. I didn’t realize this at first and failed outright on the mission. :stuck_out_tongue:

I would gladly like for this concept to be further looked upon and be introduced, so long as the difficulty doesn’t become completely insane for, say, solo legendary players.

I completely agree with you and another thing is even when you do amazingly on a game of sops you don’t really feel a sense of achievement in my opinion… but oh well you gotta give 434 a chance  I mean it’s only season 1 of spartan ops maybe they’ll listen to the things we suggest for season 2 lol…

I didn’t even notice it until I wanted Miller gone.

Sadly, the entire game mode needs to be adjusted for that to work. Right now, it’s just incompatible, it’ll only work with vehicles.

If they gave us an escort mission involving marines or Spartans, we’d be screwed lol.

I’d love it if they included one of the following:
-lives
-mission end
-Checkpoints
-Teammate revival (co-op)

Harder/diverse objectives with options to fail missions along with a limited pool of lives.

BAM, theres your challenge, no need to hike up the difficulty unnecessarily.

At least the missions are longer then 17 seconds unlike MW2.

Most, or every episode should have an element that can make you fail I think. I really enjoyed playing those both solo and co-op.

It also needs IMO theatre mode added so you can watch it back although I realise that most people (like me) might not have enough HDD space for this but I don’t know the mechanics of how the video capture works.

On Legendary it does become a bit of a grind with relentless fuel rod cannon enemies and I missed the actual story on co-op and had to go solo to hear all the comms. from Infinity otherwise I just ran about shooting without really knowing why.

I play SpOps the most as it’s just great fun. Chapters with Hogs I like the best and I have once managed to actually board a Wraith on the Land Grab map with a great driver once but too many people either don’t know how to, or are unaware that you can do this.

What would be really good but won’t happen in Halo 4 is forcing teamwork on co-op games. Even better would be to make your team armour up first.

I.E.

You team must have at least 1 Spartan with Wheelman and 1 with Gunner loadouts and at least 1 Spartan whose is wearing Engineer armour because you have to travel across enemy ground before using the engineer to actually get the data (Objective). Only he can get it.

or with other armours actually being of use making missions easier to complete with the correct team of Spartans but with missions taking much longer without this.

Replaying week 7 at the moment so I guess in a month we might see how SpOps will continue and how much it is going to cost. If Season 2 is not well revived I guess it will be canned but I would really like a season 2

Play Co-Op

Without the ability to fail there is no joy in victory.
