(spoilers)Poor writing? or am i missing something.

I have some questions I have been very confused about, wondering if anyone has answers or not.

How did Chief figure out Cortana was alive and where she was? he had a vision but how?

How did the UNSC know about Cortana?

What was the point of fireteam Osiris? They were tasked to hunt the Chief, but Chief had only disobeyed orders because they tasked Osiris to find Cortana and not Chief. WHY NOT LET CHIEF FIND CORTANA???

If you can answer these questions, the writing wasn’t that bad, but if these questions do not have answers I will be very disappointed, hope I am missing something.

UNSC had readings in colonies that Cortana was revealing herself has their saviours, what I want to know was the fact that Halsey knew she was already dangerous and was part forerunner.

Not sure how Chief had a vision from Cortana, but might be kind of like what happened in Halo 3 with Cortana popping up in the screen. Chief literally told UNSC about Cortana pointing him towards Meridian. Later Osiris keeps Inifinity and UNSC updated on the next location. Osiris was there to stop Chief from looking for Cortana since she is possibly dangerous (and given Chief’s emotional state he could’ve went along with Cortana).
Story seemed pretty straight forward to me.

You didn’t pay much attention during the cutscenes, huh?

How did Chief figure out Cortana was alive and where she was? he had a vision but how?
-Cortana has control over all Forerunner comms networks… well all data networks period. It shouldn’t be difficult to get a message through to 117.

How did the UNSC know about Cortana?
-Halsey. Remember Osiris was first tasked with going after Halsey, who only came in because of what she knew about Cortana and the Guardians.

What was the point of fireteam Osiris? They were tasked to hunt the Chief, but Chief had only disobeyed orders because they tasked Osiris to find Cortana and not Chief. WHY NOT LET CHIEF FIND CORTANA???
-Again, Halsey. She states that Chief is not mentally prepared to see Cortana go evil. And as we experience within the game, he’s far too willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. It’s only right at the end of the game that he stands opposed to Cortana, and even then is more apt to want to “save” her than combat her. Osiris has no such personal conflict. Chief is unfit to make the hard choices he must against Cortana.

Thanks for clearing it up, I guess that is pretty strait forward I’m just oblivious. Still, you’d think with blue team on his side watching over him the unsc would be able to trust him not to mention he’s probably the better soldier for such a task.

also, my connection is bad, and it kicked me out during a cutscene and a half. My friend said I didn’t miss anything but Jul’mdama being killed but I’m sure I must have.

It was a set up to make you think chief was going crazy missing cortana. He knew all along that was revieled in the start of the last act.

Locke was there to fill in the gaps and answer questions. As well as make you question chief.
If you paid attention to any of the forshadowing halsey dropped there was proper build up to evil cortana.

Yes you missed stuff, no this was not poor writing. It was good writing. Not everything has to be bluntly stated to tell a story.

Thanks for clearing it up, I was only questioning the writing because I thought I didn’t miss much but I obviously did. No need for more clarification.

How she communicated with him? I’m pretty much sure that was done through the Domain (that…thing…is pretty complex so highjacking a Spartan’s comms system should not be a issue). That and, as S12 stated, the whole scene (and a lot of them to follow) are set up as to lead you to believe that the Chief is very much emotionally unhinged and borderline crazy. I feel your other points have been pretty much been covered by now. Play the game a second time and things should get a bit clearer then

The cutscenes as and after Team Osiris first secures Dr. Halsey are probably some of the most important scenes to understanding the story in the entire game.

I’m about to play a solo legendary play through I’m sure I’ll have a better appreciation for the story once I’ve seen it through again
