*Spoilers* Legendary Ending Halo 4

So in the legendary ending of halo 4, they show the Chiefs eyes. Now, I want to know if he has become a forerunner because he looks very, very similar to the didact and this could be because the librarian made him immune to the blast in the second last mission. Can anyone give me a full explanation…

He looks nothing like the Didact, he is still human…a very pale and tired human.

The Didact tries to make himself immune to the flood, and turns himself in to a vampire!

Chief looks like that as a result of his original Spartan enhancements and spending most of his time encased in armor. This is expanded upon in the first novel “The Fall of Reach.”

I assume his new genetic enhancements only gave him powers over Forerunner technology or something.

Spartan enhancements made their eyes go blue, I thought the black was a result of the Librarian, hence why it’s a big deal.

The books already explain that chief’s face was pale etc so to include a brief glimpse of his eyes in solely the legendary ending suggests that there is a much bigger storytelling motive or reveal than just to show what he might look like. I think it’ll either be something to do with what the librarian did to him, or trying to show how much the loss of Cortana is affecting him.

It seems to me the eyes are dark just to keep a little more mistery to the character. He seemed pretty normal to me. I wouldnt waste too much time thinking about it.

This.

It is only shadows that have been placed there soley to limit the Chief’s ‘wholey’ face. Chief’s face has never been revealed before and for a reason, they arn’t going to show his entire face in Halo 4, 343i are still leaving the player some sort of imagination to play with.

Negative.

His new “enhancements” were traits set to come out in ALL of humanity… not just the chief… the Librarian just sped up the process due to the Didact being let loose. This enhancement BTW was NOT so he could use Forerunner Tech, it was so that he was immune to the Composer.

As for eye color… this is a negative as well. It wasnt JUST the enhancements… Osman went through ALL enhancements except the ceramic implants (that is what crippled her) and she has brown eyes. Also Jai had brown eyes, and a few others were hazel.

The thread title states this already , but one final warming as a safe guard

How can anyone justly say what colour his eyes are ?? ( although I’d wager on blue ) The shadowing and contrast are seemingly there to stop you seeing too much , and to perhaps empathise how battle hardened yet exhausted he is ? .

Kudos to 343 for this reveal though … It’s , in my opinion , really allowed them to put their individual stamp on Halo and go beyond the usual Bungie ‘helmet off out of shot method’ whilst tantalising , but still maintaining Johns mystery and fuelling imagination .
As for the Librarians augmentations - Aside from the obvious Composer immunity , I don’t really feel its made a really significant difference aside maybe a slight increase in strength , stamina and mental capacity ??
I’d say how he was almost overcome and so weakened by his final fight with the Didact showed his not God like , yet …

I seem to remember them being green in the book.

Nope… blue. They describe Chief in pretty great detail in Fall of Reach. I don’t know why this is a question… He is light/ almost Paul skinned BEFORE he gets his armor and has blue eyes, Red hair.

Erm… Johns hair, prior to abduction, is brown. It’s only mentioned once when Halsey meets him for the first time. The redd’ish tint to his hair is probably due to the lack of sunlight his body gets, decolorizing his hair somewhat.

I believe that it’s a little more symbolic in nature. Through the game we see a lot of questions as to who is the machine and who is the human, and even cortana’s rampancy is a symptom of becoming more and more human (gaining emotions and whatnot) and you could say John is becoming more and more machine because let’s face it, his emotions must be completely dead by now.

This is an affirmation that he is indeed still a human. His sunken eyes are to add mystery to his facial features, yes, but eyes are often referred to as windows to the soul. He’s likely a hollow husk of a man by now with little to no soul left.
