Topic says it all. Thoughts?
I wanted her to survive Halo 4.
Now I wish she’d died.
She came back the only way I could accept she would.
Although their explanation of it was…less than elegant.
I was against it before Halo 5, but shortly before could see the potential. The execution we got was less than stellar and being lied to by 343 for the past 3 years wasn’t nice.

I agree somewhat, but I would have rather them only had a rampant fragment of cortana return, and waited to reveal her return and rampancy. The rampancy would better explain the “kill everything attitude” than the halsey thing, although i did like that connection. It would also be cool if chief didn’t accept that cortana was bad at first, and then through her destruction finally realized it and turned on her. I would also find it cool if she unleashes a greater evil in halo 6 (flood or other normal halo ancient evil), and immediately reverses roles and dies stopping it from killing humans. and then maybe it ends in halo 6, maybe in halo 7 when she finally is cured of rampancy, and just as she’s cured she is killed. cruel irony is a great literary device.
Honestly, I felt her to be so corny in Halo 5. They ending was almost cringe worthy.
she was gone for good in h4. It feels cheap that they brought her back. Her h5 role also feels very inept when u play halo 1-3. I hoped for some more HTT intrigue stuff in h5 which may isn’t as ‘huge’ as this storyline right now, but definitely more exciting and not so much over the top.
I really liked the plot twist, I thought it was a cool idea.

^this
Wish she’d stayed dead so Chief could face other things while taking what he learned from her in Halo 4. That was a decent sendoff for the character, and it’s a huge punch to the gut to see her turned into a clichéd cartoon villain in the very next game.
That if Halsey couldn’t fix Cortana by recreating a new neural matrix because of past events, perhaps she can by joining her in the Domain in the future.

Agreed. Little breath of fresh air into the story. I have faith John will save his girl at some point.
And now John and Cortana have both been tweaked by the Forerunners, John got some type up “upgrade” from the librarian in H4 and now Cortana is all shinny new too. But on the more evil side.
Woah buddy, spoilers much?
But I think it’s kinda funny that they made it self aware that her coming back almost seemed like nonsense in the scene where Halsey, Palmer are all talking about Cortana being back and the Infinity AI (Roland I think) basically screams “WHAT DO YOU MEAN CORTANA IS ALIVE?”
I felt that that scene was kinda self aware.
Execution needed work, her motives are not entirely opaque, but they’re not explained very well, and she makes no effort to so much as muster a single compelling argument to defend her position, which just makes it appear that shes simply gone crazy or is infected with logic plague. Which may be true, but I have my doubts… The ironic thing about Frankies comments about people expecting a Darth Vader like villan is that Cortanas stated motives in Halo 5 are almost identical to Anakins in Star Wars Episode: 3, but there is at least a visible arc to Anakins character trajectory, and Anakin attempts to actually defend his argument when confronted by people he cares about. Then again with where Cortana is probably headed, and with this being a clear intermediate step, I can understand how they could underestimate how jarring her behavior was. They kind of jumped off the Cthulu deep end a little too soon, in my opinion anyway, even if such a leap would eventually be necessary.
Note: Stating your position multiple times and making arguments to defend your position are not the same thing.
Lets make no mistake about it, Cortana was always coming back, she was always going to be the first A.I to conquer rampancy, a law of physics demanded it. While my theory has seen many iterations, a few core constants have remained, she will outlive the stars. The steel shes made of cannot be broken, and the Light cannot be extinguished. Her candle will never burn out, it will only burn brighter and brighter, but where does she get the wax to create the light used to lit the cabin made out of carrot sticks? She is the “enemy and lover”, “their relationship is complex and perhaps eternal”, she will be drenched in his blood forever. As the tides rise, and nightfalls, the Light will become Dark. [She is the one who will ride The Beast of Revelation as time begins to circle on itself again]. She “will go on forever and know everything”. She will “govern the unwilling”, and “defy gods and demons”, even Legion will kneel before her. Until then onward towards the Librarians Edom, that garden of light, that Temple of Apollo [ where she stands and stood when she plants her seeds], [ the beginning, and the reason].

No way. Black Box vs Cortana.
You really should edit your title to let people know the thread contains spoilers.
Talk about a plot twist! I didn’t see it coming.

Yes I remember your thread about how she could come back via Gravemind I believe.
