Is it just me or does it seem like 343 dont want to confirm Didact as the “Ancient Evil” ?
As you might know, they recently started talking briefly about the Didact in interviews, but when confronted with questions about him, biased with the assumption that he is the “Ancient Evil”, they seem to flinch a bit. I’ll see if I can find specific videos.
Edit: I found the video Here, at 4:50. “His persona is kind of a mixed bag, he’s a heroic figure, he’s a noble figure in history, and in some ways he feels like a god guy, but he’s much more complicated than that. And as you said, the tagline is “an ancient evil awakens”, so whatever is awakening is obviously not friendly”
Also take a look at this video from 2:40. Josh talks about “threats” on requiem, only one of which is the prometheans.
I also want to point out something about “Storm”, the religious covenant splinter group that serves as one of the main antagonist factions of Halo 4. To much controversy, they look very different from past games. It has been hinted that there is a canonical explanation for this, that they are in fact slightly “mutated” (in lack of a better word). Maybe they encountered something “life-changing” in their quest for forerunner relics?
Just brainstorming, but maybe some type of entity that has the power to control biological/neurological cells, tissue and matter?
Another thing; Might there be some canonical relevance of Flood Mode as a training exercise on the UNSC Infinity?
Perhaps there is in fact… -four factions in Halo 4 ?
