Spoiler free is the way to be!

Halo 4 is just around the corner! It’s so close you can smell it! Well, it’s either that or your upper lip, but still. As we approach launch, and the surrounding excitement becomes almost palpable, I want to have a little chat about the discussion of spoilers and leaks.

I’m sure most of you already know that leaks are not tolerated on Waypoint, but for those who don’t, consider yourself schooled. Going forward we will be implementing a rougher, gruffer, and harsher approach to our moderation practices to help preserve the forum-going experience of the community. We aren’t looking to be cruel or unusual, but no one wants to be spoiled. So to help you avoid the ever-growing banhammer, we have a tip for you:

  • If the information is not found on Waypoint’s front page or in the blog, it may be leaked.
The above has been said before, but it doesn’t hurt to give a friendly reminder. If you want to know if something is safe to talk about on Waypoint, make sure it is on Waypoint. Other sites or blogs may carry information that is not yet intended for public consumption, and posting them in the forums would be considered a leak.

On the spoiler note, please remember to keep any and all released information regarding characters, missions, and plot in the thread body itself, and well hidden by spoiler tags. Last thing any of us want is to wander in to a section to read a thread title that says, “Whoa, Bruce Willis was dead the entire movie!” (It’s been 13 years since that movie came out, no longer a spoiler!)

These changes will being immediately.

With your help we can keep this upcoming launch as fresh as possible, spoiler and leak free! Just remember the tip from above, and use your best judgment. Should you have any questions, you’re more than welcome to PM either myself, bs angel, or one of the moderators and we will let you know if information is safe to post! Last thing we want is another campaign ending spoiled!

Thanks for the help! 25 days left…

Announcement 10/13/2012: To help enhance the overall experience for all people, we are going to implement a new rule - Do not quote posts that break our rules and guidelines.

This new rule will also be in effect immediately, and applies to not only leaked content, but spoilers, flaming, and trolling as well.

If you see someone breaking the rules, by all means report and move on. We will treat posts quoting inappropriate content as a unique post & offense, and will warn or ban accordingly.

Announcement 11.05.12 - The game is rolling out worldwide, but just because you’ve finished it, doesn’t mean that everyone else has.

To help keep Waypoint free from spoilers, we will be holding a mandatory 7-day period in which all campaign discussion MUST be hidden behind spoiler tags. If you fail to do so we will be issuing bans until the end of that 7-day period. So please, be polite, think of others, and hide your campaign discussions behind the appropriate tags! Thanks!

Thanks for this post!

If I may reiterate, those wishing to discuss official story details please include a general idea in the topic (not the spoiler itself) and then follow with a spoiler warning, e.g. “Question about the Campaign (spoiler alert)”.

Please also make use of the [spoiler][/spoiler] code to block other posts within threads that may contain said information.

We all want to experience things in our own way, so don’t spoil the game for your fellow fans!

I heard the leaks are beginning to roll out. I may be going dark, but Waypoint is usually pretty quick to reacting to spoilers…

Also a little rule of thumb for leaked information.

> Don’t go looking for leaks, and you wont find any.
> If you see a leak, then don’t read it, ignore it, don’t think about it, just move on.

Also, if you’re planing on going dark, now would be a nice time to do so, if you want to, but just remember, leave the “I’m going dark” posts for blogs, twitter, facebook, google+, and Xbox LIVE messages, not on the forums, if it has no discussion, don’t post it.

Sadly, leaks are an inevitable thing. Hopefully there wont be too many instances, though.

And as Weird Stealth said directly above this post. Don’t make threads simply saying that you’re going dark. If you’re going dark, power to ya. But those kind of threads don’t really offer any discussion value.

I am glad that Waypoint, in a way, is going dark too.

Thanks for responding, very quickly, to our needs, Mods.

hhhmmmmm XD

If it’s announced by microsoft? i mean they are the publishers, that should make it ‘‘no leak’’

Apparently, it’s the best day ever.

> If it’s announced by microsoft? i mean they are the publishers, that should make it ‘‘no leak’’

If it is safe to be talked about, you will see it here, on this site.

Thank you guys. I really want to be surprised by the campaign. I hope everyone sees this.

Glad to see the moderator team is cracking down on leaks. It shall not be easy work but know it is greatly appreciated.

Well at least Waypoint will be a safe haven from spoilers. Thanks rukizzel and the Mod team.

I want to be able to stay on the forums. Last time when bungie had the wheel someone posted randomly all of noble team and how they would die. The topic wasn’t even related to campaign. So while my brother and friends got to be surprised by campaign i had to sit quiet and just watch. Hopefully this can be avoided.

Thanks for the post. Though will be hard for me to not be here ;_;

I’m glad the mods are really buckling down on this. I don’t want some idiot to run around posting threads with spoilers in the name. It would be The Dark Knight Rises all over again.

I’m glad there’s such a crackdown on this, Halo 3, ODST and Reach were all spoiled fairly easily if you didn’t go dark.

I can’t believe you just ruined The Sixth Sense for me.

I suggest going dark now…some moron on youtube is claiming to be a reviewer and has leaked Halo 4 (missions).

Also i suggest do not go on youtube at all.

Well, the -Yoink- is really starting to hit the fan right now. Looks like I’m finally going dark.

Goodbye cruel forums, won’t be back until at least November 6th. :frowning:
