Hello everybody. I would like to discuss the story of Halo 5: Guardians and the direction it is taking with the Halo franchise. Posted below are my thoughts.
In the game, Cortana becomes evil in the campaign when she enters the Forerunner internet. She awakens the Guardians and plans on exterminating everyone in the galaxy who does not bow down to her. I am saddened by this story because our ally for four games has now turned against humanity. I am worried that the Master Chief will hesitate to kill her if he had the chance to. I would like to know what you all think about the story? Thanks!
Something tells me their is more to it then that. I think that is a copy…The real one would never go that far. I do believe she is out there somewhere though.
You really need to change the title. Cortana being evil is a spoiler itself. That being said, I think it’s an interesting direction that makes sense. Halsey explains that Cortana possesses many of her flaws, one of them being doing whatever necessary to save herself and those that she cares about. With the mantle serving as a way for her to cure her rampancy and potentially end all war across the galaxy, it makes sense for her to pursue such a cause.
Cortana is not “evil” in the traditional sense, she is attempting to bring peace to the galaxy through force. It’s similar to the thought process of Viki in I,Robot. She thinks the only way to ensure that life continues is to destroy the civilizations and/or individuals that threaten that, namely the Covenant and UNSC (which he and the other AI’s have a grudge against).
Warden is not dead, as he cannot die. He is an AI like Guilty Spark or Witness, but his purpose is to act as the overseer of the Guardians. Think of each Guardian as a ship, Warden is the captain of each at the same time. Since he is an AI he just rebuilds his body and is basically immortal. I’m sure we will see him in Halo 6, likely we will find where his AI is stored and destroy it.
Exactly… Cortana is made from Dr. Halsey… who started the Spartan program. A program many said was the wrong thing to do, but Halsey did it for the greater good… very similar to what Cortana is doing now.

Well, to me it’s how her personality seems to have done an entire 180. While old Cortana has always been snarky, part of what made her character so great, but she never would have gone to such extremes.
She’s seemingly gone full bore crazy AI overlord now, but she still very much cares for MC so hopefully that will snap her out of it eventually.
