**Spoiler Alert** Cortana's situation

So I was just curious if anyone else had any thoughts on whether or not we will be seeing Cortana again. I have looked at a few different forums and a lot of people seem to think she is in fact “Gone Forever”… but I found something on my second play through of the campaign that makes me question what 343’s intentions are…

In the very beginning of the second mission “Requiem” you’ll all be familiar with the fact that you have to make your way through the crash site of the “Forward unto Dawn” well in one of the larger sections of the ship that you can still walk through you can find an accessible terminal that when you do access it, it plays a recording of Dr. Halsey talking about Cortana… and that there was a rouge element within her that deleted the auto-kill process that is always coded into AIs’… or what ever it was called… I don’t remember it word for word… and that this means that the 7 year life span could be very inaccurate and that Dr. Halsey didn’t no the source of this rouge element… whatever that is…

I didn’t know if I’m just over thinking this or if this has already been explained but I was just curious since I looked it up and couldn’t find anything on it…

I thank you for your time and your thoughts…

She was rampant and she is gone.

I’m guessing we’ll see Halsey again and maybe get another AI. Maybe even another Cortana model like Cortana herself mentioned.

I am almost certain she will be back. Cortana and Chief are the heart of Halo. They would not just kill her like that. Also, there are a lot of possible foreshadowing to her not being dead and possibilities of her living on.

Well I don’t want to sound as if I simply want to accept my own reality… but do you say that because of something you have read or seen… because I also just found out that apparently Frank O’Conner was quoted as saying that we would be exploring deeper into both Master Chief and Cortana throughout the whole trilogy…

…that, and the fact that they made the effort to hide things like that terminal I found make me think that there is more to this situation than meets the eye… but then again…

If anyone went through the spartan ops. Missions they would know about the promethian souls. I honestly think that Halsey is going to go that route. I think that Halsey might use a promethian soul in the next game. Their probably going to haveJohn come across Catherine in a mission after her banishment. Tell her (Halsey) that Cortana is gone and Halsey help Chief bring Cortana back…

I don’t think we’ve seen the last of the Didact or Cortana.

Halo 5 will be very interesting.

As of now I’m not too sure , but what I know is that you should check this thread out !

25+ Pages of info regarding Cortana . You can thank me later

The Epilogue’s description says she died.

At the end, she was on the Forerunner ship with technology that surpasses that of Humans and that which can store a living organism as a virtual being (like the librarian). All it takes is for something to capture the essence of Cortana and ‘evolve’ her. Forerunner tech could easily remove that ‘kill age’ and increase her intelligence.

I personally believe we will find Cortana on one of the other Forerunner structures (as shown in SOPs on the ‘key’) and she will be controlling it or something. I think that she may lose her memory and turn ‘bad’.

I don’t think they would kill her off, as she and Chief ARE the main characters. Or character. As they are one, after all; not literally speaking.

There are many alternatives for what could’ve happening, the fact that Forerunner tech is capable of transferring data huge distances (Halo’s were able to communicate as they needed to for timing to ‘launch’ when the Forerunners set them off) so as the Forerunner ship was blowing up, all the data on the ship could have been transferred to a ‘backup centre’. Who knows. We will just have to wait and see!

A.I.'s are based on a human personality. It’s only fitting that she, as a “human” machine, was Chief’s (the machine-like man) last tie to humanity. He held on to her and tried to protect her in the way he was never able to save the other people he grew close to.

But this opens up a huge new world of possibilities.

I can see it now, the wonder and the greatness:

Sargent Johnson A.I.

She is dead… Ever since the whole Johnson Legendary ending in CE people refuse to believe Halo characters die. Cortana, Noble 6, Johnson, Jorge, Spark, etc… They are dead and will not be returning. Sorry to burst some bubbles.

Cortana’s Rampancy and character in general was starting to get annoying come the end of the game anyway. Master Chief needs a new AI. The other in-game Halo AI’s have been pretty cool(Roland and Serina).

“Recalling surface squads so we can all die together. Aye, sir!”

If they bring Cortana back it would make the whole Hali 4 campaign redundant, which would be a shame. Also, Cortana was reaching her end, it was inevitable. Cheaply dodging it could have ended as bad story telling while killing her off ended up as good story telling.

So TLDR, Cortana should stay dead and if Chief gets a new AI it should be fundamentally different from Cortana.

You obviously haven’t read the 2nd book in the Forerunner saga. If you had, you would know that Guilty Spark is alive (or at least his back up copy) and has taken control of a UNSC ship to search for the Librarian.

Anything is possible, we never actually heard or saw anything that said she was definitely gone for good. Personally, I think when she temporarily disappeared just before Chief spoke with the Librarian, a copy of her was made and transported to somewhere else on Requiem or even Installation 03.

Halo Wars, Lulz

But I don’t know. Requiem got pulled into a star, but anything is possible. Chief will be dark killing machine without Cortana to remind him what he’s really fighting for.

I want a Johnson A.I. so bad though.

It’s still not the legit Guilty Spark. I haven’t read the new books aside from about the first 20 chapters of Primordium. I have a problem with reading comprehension(I’m probably dyslexic tbh…) so the audiobook by Tim Dadabo was a blessing.

I don’t think it was just you dude, that book was HARD as hell and I’m a BIG reader. I’ve been reading way advanced books since before I was even in Pre-K! But there were a lot of scenes I had to reread they were so confusing… like the web part and the Forerunner holograms (This was before Halo 4 came out). It was a VERY hard to visualize book… and I have one of the worst known cases of ADD lol says something right there

Jul M’Dama is currently growing a young clone assassin from Dr. Halsey’s severed arm. At the end of the next game the clone gets her mind damaged beyond repair while interfacing with a huge metal planet that is actually a giant Forerunner computer.

A copy of Cortanna will be downloaded into the empty clone body, but it is an older copy and she won’t remember Master Chief.

Listen to the audiobook… I’m telling you, it’s pretty amazing. I would have finished the rest of it but I got caught up in other activities. You can find the whole thing on youtube pretty easily.

EDIT: Link to Chapter 1 if you’re interested.

Thanks! I’ve never been an audio book person, but I’ll definitely take your advise up on it and listen to it. Hopefully I can pronounce the words and terms right too lol. Btw, I’ve been planning on listening the audiobooks with the two on Waypoint with the Silentium codes… that is after I finish the book of course. They’re pretty long

On Topic:
I believe we’ll see the return of Cortana or Halsey some how composed to an AI.

A Little Off Topic:
Imagine if in Halo 5 or future SPOPS you get to choose from a series of AI options during a QTE cutscene in campaign. Sort of how Reach’s Firefight voices worked and you could use them in campaign and SPOPS for your friends to hear as well.

  1. Cortana copy
  2. Johnson
  3. Chief inception.
  4. Palmer (for the giggles)
  5. Gravemind
  6. Arby
  7. Guilty Spark
  8. Keyes
  9. Classic funny grunt voice (reprised by Joseph Staten)
