With the news that Destiny won’t have splitscreen, and its absence in a lot of next gen games, I wanted to start the campaign for spitscreen in future halo titles.
Many of us play halo with a friend or family member and it is great to play in the same room as them. Moreover, a lot of people can’t afford to have 2 next gen consoles, two games, and two tv setups and an internet connection that supports both.
I just wanted to express how great it has been playing splitscreen across halo titles, and my hopes that 343 will continue to support the great halo tradition of fantastic splitscreen.
Some people mock the slightly worse graphics in splitscreen; but splitscreen is not about graphics, its about fun. Its about hopping into halo matchmaking together getting in a warthog together and having fun.
Its all about spending more money now, unfortunately. This doesn’t really bother me, because i usually game on my own, but still, its a lot more convenient to have it anyway, should i ever choose to play the game with someone.
The fact that the Master Chief Collection is being updated to the current hardware specs (HD, 60 fps, etc) and will support split screen seems to indicate that there is every intention of keeping that tradition going forward.
I wouldn’t expect the console’s tech to have a difficult time supporting split screen as we saw in Reach (split screen caused some settings to get dialed back) and Halo 4 (outright performance issues) until much later in the console’s development progression.
You should feel safe in assuming that two player split screen will be a part of the franchise for the next couple titles.
Wow, no way. I can’t believe that no split screen is even a possibility. I am totally surprised to have just found out that Destiny won’t have it.
Personally, that is a deal breaker for my wife and I. No split-screen, no halo; we’re not going to buy two Xbox ones for it. I think 343 HAS TO find a way to make split screen work, and continue to do so for future titles. If other developers drop it, I agree that it could very well be a differentiating feature in the halo titles.
…man, split screen CAN NOT go away.
YOO 343 LET ME PLAY WITH MY BUDDIES SPARTAN OPS OR FIREFIGHT EVEN WITHOUT HAVING A GOLD SUBSCRIPTION AT THAT TIME. YOU GUYS ALREADY GOT MY 460$ WHY FORCE ME TO SPEND EVEN MORE DO YOU GUYS REALLY WANT 3RD WORLD GAMERS TO GO COMPLETELY PC ONLY???
Seriously I was frustrated when I learned about this 2(?) years ago fix this please.
Splitscreen is pretty important to me because I make machinima from time to time, having that ability removed would just kill it. I hate filming things with other people because 9/10 they’re complete idiots who have no idea what they’re doing. It is genuinely difficult to find someone who can get the job done perfectly. Though I will say when they do I try to find extra ways of rewarding them for their assistance - I’m going off track though, but yes I hope Splitscreen keeps coming. It is a massive part of Halo’s history and if done correctly - it’s future.
> snip for all-caps ugliness
Don’t post in all-caps, there’s no need for it and you’ll just get yourself banned.
Glad to see other people like this feature as much as I do.
it’s also about not having frame rate drops to a point where it becomes unbearable to play.
but i guess with xbox one splitscreen we’ll be just fine.
I love split screen and really hope it is supported for games to come. So many modern games don’t have this feature anymore and it really is upsetting. I’m all for using xbox live, but I have friends that live with me and near me that I’d like to game with in the same room.
Guys this isn’t the time to riot.
The possibility of splitscreen not being in Halo 5 is so minuscule that even the thought of the idea is crazy. There WILL be splitscreen.
If anything I’m expecting them to FINALLY give us 4 player campaign splitscreen. I’m sick of switching off with my friends.
I was always under the impression that games like Call of Duty: Ghosts didn’t have 4-player splitscreen in order to compensate for cross-gen releases.
Could be wrong.
But if they drop 4-player splitscreen in Halo 5, I may prepare my Halo for firing.
I love splitscreen and though I do have two working setups and will buy two Ones I don’t want to see splitscreen vanish.
There are far too many people who will have their first introduction to gaming splitscreen on someone else’s console. Too many couples and siblings that make use of it.
There’s no real reason to get rid of it at all.
Some good posts here.
Thanks everybody.
I want splitscreen, but also 4 player co-op local for Campaign…
splitscreen has been great when playing with friends/family. Although there are many problems with splitscreen, losing the feature all together would be sad

No routing here, just discussing why split screen is so important. I honestly can’t imagine 343i removing split screen from the Halo franchise especially on a next gen-platform. I too am very sick of switching off with my buddies… thats how I played titanfall with them and it is annoying.
If split screen can be implemented without framerate drops, go ahead, but I don’t want to be paired with split screeners who are at a handicap from the beginning.
