Splitscreen Co-op cancelled?

I can’t even tell if this is sarcasm or not anymore.
Also, Bonnie Ross’ words. Haha nice one.

I don’t think whoever is responsible for this decision realises how important split screen is. If it wasn’t for Halo CE having split screen at the core of its campaign, I not only wouldn’t be a Halo fan, I might not even be a gamer.

I started playing Halo on my friend’s original Xbox back in the Halo CE days. At that time I had quit gaming and sold my old consoles. Playing Halo co-op with him was so much fun, I went and bought my own Xbox and bought every subsequent Halo game at launch.

I would never have bought my own Xbox or Halo on a whim without that experience. I needed to be able to play it without the expectation of making any kind of investment and with the encouragement and company of my friend.

I think it is true of not only video games, but most media, that your first exposure to something you come to love is usually not through purchasing it yourself, sight unseen. Friends introduce you to it. They lend you a book or a tape/DVD/Blu-ray. They play an album at a party. Or, uniquely for video games, they invite you to play it with them.

Removing this potential form of exposure not only lessens the experience for existing fans, it cuts you off from the opportunity to make countless new ones, who otherwise would never have picked up your game from a store shelf or spent the time downloading it. They never would have given it a chance. They might not even know it exists.

I understand that the 2022 games industry is not the 2001 games industry. I understand that there is a fundamental difference between making Halo CE split screen work and Halo Infinite work. I am not saying that there aren’t challenges in making split screen in a modern, open-world game work. I am saying, 343, it is very much worth your while to make it work. It needs to work.

Dude they really are extremely slow at churning out anything…

The problem is they themselves put themselves into this corner… No one asked for a Live service game hell everyone would have been content with a regular full paid game with DLC drops and some in game store that was rotational…

People want to defend dit but let’s be real they stripped away most of what made a game a game and left a husk that was solely focused around HCS… Social aspect were ripped away for the most part…

I really doubt we will get a PVE mode that is great . From what I have seen in leaks the PVE mode they showed is basically just the same maps from MP but used in PVE mode so that’s gonna get old quick…

They have. A whole assa open world map that could work for PVE modes and they decided naw broski… Your just going to fight banished on small MP maps…

Honestly it’s fine, though, I wanted Halo to lne amazing but I mean if I wanted to play Bare minimum effort games o would have stayed with COD… But good thing A news one coming out and warzone 2… I can go play bare minimum that’s mostly entertaining .

I’m not surprised at all, the only consistency 343 has with their trilogy of Halo is delays, retcons, and failures. I hate to say it but it’s just too true.

Hmmm … I heard that ran like crap.

From what I understand the PC version was not a good port, yes. It came out before I became pretty much a PC only gamer, so I played it on the Xbox One where it ran fine. I still hold out some minor hope that one day Coalition will do some Ultimate Editions of the Gears trilogy and bundle them together in a similar fashion as the MCC on Steam. That’s the extent to my interest in the Gears series these days.

I think it is clear that we will be settling for less features. Divert their focus means they don’t have the resources to do everything they promised, and will simply offer us less features, with no upside.

Do you think that they will:

A - Not release co-op, and divert the resources to some super fun amazing surprise feature that they haven’t been telling us about but will surely be as good as having co-op was.

or

B - Not release co-op, and divert the resources to completing other things they already promised, but are also late on, which ultimately leaves the final product with: less features.

Here you go, watch this.

This is a sad, sad day for Halo fans that love co-op. This changes reviews of the game, this changes how people will look at 343I even more now as well.

This is not good news or good press or anything. Doesn’t matter what The rest of the update is or what they say. This is going to be on every gaming news channel across the internet and will piss off a lot of people.

343I has royally messed up yet again!! … I don’t want to see anyone lose their job, ever!! but how many chances do some of these people get here? When is enough, enough.

Man this sucks and I don’t even really do coach co-op much anymore with Halo and I still think it really sucks!! It’s not right.

I’ve had this crap uninstalled since the end of season 1… Short forgettable lack luster campaign, ruined armor and progression system, desynced multiplayer and 90% of the content missing/cut/delayed and fed back to us slowly.

Why they couldnt just deliver us a finished product from day 1 with a decent story and without features missing is beyond me. The #1 priority for 343 and Microsoft is the focusing of monetisation of the game over player enjoyment which has bitten them in the -Yoink!-.

Sadly the freemium trend continues to kill this industry slowly like a disease.

Makes me feels very justified in not purchasing the campaign. I was right not to trust 343i to deliver what they promised.

i reckon many reviews will be posted and changed to reflect this terrible news.

100% deserved. worst company in the industry right now, next to EA, DICE and Ubisoft.

Please show me this quote.

Halo 5’s outrage was that there was no split screen. Period. Multiplayer and campaign.

Infinite has split screen for multiplayer.

I don’t defend 343 often, but I gotta defend them here.
While no split screen in the campaign sucks, the amount of time a person actually uses couch coop to play campaign is fractional at best compared to overall play time.

Yeah, this sucks. I remember as a kid playing Splitscreen on CE and 2 with friends and how much fun we all had.

it seems like game companies and developers hate any sort of social interaction between players these days.

My man, she’s just talking split screen in general, not specifically coop. Halo 5 had no split screen what so ever. Infinite has multiplayer split screen.

It was during one of the random halo announcements post 5 before infinite that she said this. At work for the next 8 hours but I’ll hunt it down later. I remember her words clear as day and I’m mad as hell now. A lot of people rightfully are

Well %#$@ !!! Really sucks because I was looking forward in being able to play co-op with my boy. We’ve gotten a lot of enjoyment on prior Halo series and was expecting the same with Infinite. SO DISAPPOINTING!!!

So , the one feature that I have waited for so I could play with my wife has been dropped. Wtf 343. I haven’t felt the magic since H3…wait that’s right cause Bungie. I have tried to push through this crap with H5 which is when I stopped really playing and after I beat the story on HI I stopped playing. Just so I could do split screen with my wife. We have played every Halo up until 5 on split screen legendary, it’s really how I got her into gaming. Halo was one of only a couple FPSs she would play…because we can play split screen …hate that you made a promise you couldn’t keep.
