Here I will make a very brief case to split HALO into 2 franchises because things have gotten absolutely ridiculous in terms of commitments to original fans vs younger people. What I advocate is splitting the franchise and advertising the -Yoink- out of it. The brave sociologists and business people at 343 determined that the current halo is what is best for the franchise. Fine! Hell if I was in charge at Microsoft I’d go for what my guys thought would sell best too!
But I can’t get into the game. The perspective changes are just off on zoom and I can’t reconcile so many other things I don’t know where to start. To be more intricate, I suppose I’m too lazy- y’all would expect more out of a paid employee. Anyway I just really wonder if the goal of these games is to entice strictly new players??? It makes sense in a way, perhaps, to stay the coolest with a younger generation for marketing purposes for your “organic stack,” but really these games are alienating me to no end. I just can’t play them outside of campaign!!
So here’s a vote for traditional halo 3 (the best halo mechanics ever developed) to make its mark on the next game. The zoom is too dramatic and off-putting to be usable in H5. The inclusion of ADS was bold and actually was cool in certain scenarios but absolutely ruined gameplay in multiplayer imo. Why? For God sakes we have all the money and I can’t get my old school friends to play anymore- the only option is MCC and same old or terrible gameplay with the new game.
I said flat out I want the franchise split in 2. I say that because I do feel it will make good business sense for the company- I was born in the 80’s and grew up with Microsoft. I have friends who work for that company and I want to see it be a strong player in the market, not just a patent -Yoink!-.
You seem to belittle my thoughts on the scoping. Why? Gameplay is radically changed when scoping is so drastically altered. I conceded it was a bold move. I will also say that it no longer feels like Halo, which I’m sure you’ve all heard before. The point I was trying to make is that there is money to be made in making an updated Halo game with nice textures that plays like Halo 3. I work hard and would not come down on the good people at 343 for there efforts. Halo 5 is most definitely a great game! I just can’t get with the POV for multiplayer despite repeated efforts. If there are fans who agree with this then perhaps it’s worthwhile to explore
i think you just need to adapt to the game more, i 2 struggled to get into MP as i just couldn’t play like i used to in other Halo games, however with some fine tuning of my controller settings and some practice im starting to get to grips with the games dynamics, i dont entirely see what splitting the franchise will do, yes maybe in the next installment they can makes some changes to show previous editions of the game, but in reality it would make more sense to just update the current version.
in my eyes its not all about the game its about the players aswell and even if you split the franchise you would still end up with the same players and thus the same problem.
i often play customs with my community friends which i prefer more than matchmaking ( unless we are in a fireteam) and i really like warzone.
to attract a wider audience will be on everyone’s agenda thats the only way you can grow whether it be a game or some other business.
unfortunately it doesnt matter what 343 do they will never please everyone so you have to make hay whilst the sun shines.
True no one will ever be fully pleased. But I have hope for the next Halo game. The original formula brought wild success for the first 3 games and could still draw older crowds in. Why wouldn’t they want that crowd? They have more money.
I’ve been saying this for a long time by now: If 343 wants to shove that “modern” approach down players throats, they need to produce a game where it actually makes sense. Have a game that follows Spartan-IIs with classic over-the-top gameplay and another one that centers on either Marines, ODSTs or Spartan-IVs with their “modern” mechanics.
H5G actually could have been the starting point for that, by having Chief control a certain way and Locke handling totally different. Then they could have provided both multiplayer experiences from the get-go. But, alas, nooo… screw that, better add more ground pound.
It’s still possible. Assuming that Team Red returns in Halo Wars 2 and seeing as they haven’t upgraded to the Mjolnir GEN-2, it would be easy to center a game around them. Now 343 just needs to put that idea into practice.

I lol’d at your claim H5G had better mechanics than Halo 3. It probably has the worst in the series. Christ, even Reach had better mechanics than H5G, and that one had bloom and armor abilities.

Seriously just start a BTB custom game with all spartan abilities disabled, loadout with the classic BR and magnum, edit the forge map sandtrap to spawn in classic power weapons and power ups and BOOM!!! you got yourself a reskinned halo 3 multiplayer map for you and your salt shaker xbox live friends.
I feel like my old man when I talk about this so thanks for the affirmation. The notion that H5 is not user friendly beyond basic controller mechanics is pretty clear. It just isn’t simple enough to entertain a wider audience.

I do appreciate the advice and I’m not trying to poke fun this time. Unfortunately the custom games approach isn’t a real draw for too many people

I understand, but from a business perspective, there are more ten year olds that want to ground pound aliens than there are long running fans that want the same old halo formula
