I’ve noticed for years now that Halo CE and Halo 2 classic make full use of the screen while playing two player split screen. For some reason this doesn’t apply to 2 Anniversary, 3, ODST, Reach, or 5. I don’t like this since I feel like I’m wasting screen space on black borders to the left and right.

I wanna know how you got split screen in 5

On a serious note I’ve noticed this as well. I think it has to do with the fact that CE and 2C were designed with 4:3 aspect ratio in mind. When you split screen the FOV increases so the view isn’t so narrow, and when they added support for 16:9 I’m guessing it was simpler to replicate this functionality than add black bars. Subsequent games with 16:9 aspect ratio, it might have been a performance reason to add the black bars because split screen no longer increases the FOV. It’s a pretty weak excuse now since it’s no longer the 360 era and splitscreeners already experience a performance drops. What’s a few more degrees of vision especially now that there is a dedicated FOV slider.
I have noticed this too, although I really don’t care- mainly because I play on a 54/55 inch Tv while doing split screen

Probably a typo and he meant to say 4.

As the other guy said. I did mean 4 not 5.
Also I’m specifically confused by the decision to add black bars to Halo 2 Anniversary multiplayer since it’s not based on a 360 era Halo game.
