Split-screen LAG

Just wondering if this issue has been brought up. Before anybody says its my TV, I’ve played almost every other game out there and I have no split-screen lag. However, for Halo 4, its utterly horrendous. Pretty much to the point where my wife and I can’t sit down and enjoy matchmaking. Playing single player matchmaking is fine, but when 2 or more people play on the same screen, the framerate issue is just awful. 343, why does your game lag for split-screen? Are you looking into this issue?

Complex, Shatter, Wreckage, and ALL of the new Forge maps suffer from it.

Thankfully, the Majestic map pack doesn’t suffer from it all with 2-player splitscreen, which was a really pleasant surprise.

To be honest, it doesn’t matter what map I play on in Halo 4, they ALL lag.
I wonder if its because I’m using wireless. But I don’t lag on single player multiplayer. I just don’t get it. It doesn’t do this for any other game…

It’s because the machine has to render everything twice - once for both screens. It’s been like this since Reach, where the screen lag was pretty poor as well.

There’s nothing you can do about it. I’ve played around with settings and discovered that lowering the brightness helps a bit, but it’s no solution. It’s like fighting a virus - you can mitigate the effects, but you can’t actually kill the damn thing.

There’s only one reason and its pretty dam simple.Old hardware in the 360.Halo 4 eats up all of the 360’s resources to run. When you split screen you are making the 360 max its resources out.Its not lag, what you are experiencing is about 5 fps.FPS(Frames Per Second). When you hit 10 fps and under it acts like lag can but unlike lag its preventable. My advice that the game doesn’t but should tell you.Don’t play split screen.Simple.There is literally nothing that can be done about it.Wait till the 720 comes out with up to date hardware. Then you can again enjoy Halo with 30+ fps during the game throughout.

Frame rate issues on split screen could be easily prevented if maps were tested on split screen. Shatter or some (actually all) Forge maps are nightmare. But look at Complex - in War Games it has framerate issues, yet, same map, with same geometry and textures doesn’t have framerate issues in Spartan Ops. It looks like 343i refined this map for Spartan Ops, so it has much closer draw distance, but it’s lag free.

Fixing frame rate issues on maps is possible and I really hope there will be patch which will make Complex and Shatter (along with Wreckage, Meltdown, Vortex etc.) more smooth on split screen. Even if the patch means downloading refined versions of all big maps, which should be around 2gb.

Fixing Forge will be probably more complicated (dynamic lighting and stuff), but without it, Forge with all it’s maps is basically useless.
