Funny story guys I was playing Darkstar in warzone earlier and called in a splinter turret as usual, and started off with a Killing Frenzy. Two minutes after I died I noticed three teammates and two opponents had called in Splinter Turrets. I’m influential.
Anyhow, how come nobody ever calls in Splinter turrets? They’re a great way to pick up five or so kills early game with little req cost!
It’s because it limits your mobility so heavily. While powerful if you hit your shots, the sacrifice of mobility is more important than you think.

I have awful aim and I am an average player, but I still excel with it especially in close quarters. Sure, occasionally someone with a pistol perfect kills me.
They’re a very underrated weapon, especially during core defense. I got a triple kill with the last shot once when defending the core.

Precisely, if player’s good enough, they can perfect you with the pistol. Most of the time, when playing a decent team, it could be coutered by other easily obtainable reqs, like railgun, plasma caster and overshield.
Unless you’re defending/capping bases or killing bosses, the Splinter Turret isn’t all that useful beyond that. The Chaingun Turrets (more so the ONI variant) are more viable if you’re gonna be out in the field looking for kills.
The Splinter Turret is a cheap and powerful explosive weapon, but the travel time and the need for accurate shots causes it to fall short. On the other hand, it’s a wonderful weapon during Firefight.

Sometimes the arc of the turrets is off and it doesn’t directly hit your opponent. I wish there could have been a suppressor or binary type variant which can be created using the weapon pad glitch.

The ONI for sure, but the regular just doesn’t produce many kills for me, mainly because it doesn’t have a crazy red reticle range.
I guess I never called them in because I just always thought they weren’t tough enough.
Why should I call in one if I can steal it from an enemy?
Its a great weapon for defending bases.
It is also quite good for taking out bosses…
or wasp riding…
I use it all the time in Firefight. It makes fast work of early round Knight, Wraith and Ghost bosses.

It does amazing work against Crawlers on Core Defense sections.

^^^ this. While the weapon is pretty powerful, (able to kill someone in 2 shots) the trade off of mobility makes the weapon less appealing to use. That, and it’s only really decent at close range (unless you plan on spraying and praying with it, but good luck getting a kill by doing that.)
Its way more effective in Assault if you’re defending. Just have to get in a good spot to take out the enemy a rack up some kills and call in another one
The splinter turret is secretly the lowest req sniper in Halo 5. It may not seem great at range but it’s rounds seem to be slightly tracking to targets. So launch that thing at the enemies armory at the beginning of a game and watch the kills come in. It is also the best hunter weapon. You can just launch rounds at hunters and watch their health melt down to zero,
they are best in close spaces like the bases
but outside of those spaces it useless for me

It’s great when your team is down to the final armory and people are storming in
It’s a really good way to defend a base because in your base you don’t need to move alot you can just stay in one place rather than attacking cause theres a higher risk of loosing it but in firefight go crazy it’s tonnes of fun.
