I just started playing Destiny today and was absolutely shocked when I discovered the “scatter grenade.” Halo 4 came out in 2012 (a year before Destiny) and the splinter grenade was way different in that game. A year later, Halo 5 comes out and the splinter grenade now behaves and appears (near) identically to the scatter grenade in Destiny? Either Halo 5 blatantly copied Destiny or drew a little too much inspiration from it. Either way, this seems super shady to me…
Also, why did the design of the splinter grenade change in the first place? I don’t recall hearing or reading about this anywhere.
The Halo 4 Pulse grenade. It might have not been the most deadly of the 3 grenades, but it sure was less annoying than the nuisance that is the Halo 5 Splinter Grenade.
Many of the Promethean weapons changed their behavior after the didact disappeared, thats the lore explanation.
The other reason is because of balancing.

Wow, I can’t believe I confused the splinter grenade with the pulse grenade XD. I guess I just assumed they’re the same because they’re both used by the Prometheans. I personally prefer the splinter grenade, but I hate how similar it is to the scatter grenade in Destiny.
The pulse grenade was useless in H4. It wasn’t capable of killing, unless the opponents are trying to kill themselves. It was intended to be a denial of area grenade, but it wasn’t very good at denying anything, except maybe a kill. The splinter grenade is a much better redesign, because it is pretty deadly should you walk unaware into it, but is easily avoidable. Unlike the pulse grenade, you can’t walk through a splinter without regretting it.
The scatter grenade (for the Hunters, right?) tracks your opponents when you get close and doesn’t explode on contact. Similar design, but that’s about it.
