I know this game is a spiritual reboot, but what does that mean? Do promethians still exist, is 4 and 5 rebooted or just 5? Does the spartan team in h5 exist? Is Cortana evil or dead? Basically how much of the story no longer exists.
Cortana is still “not evil but just doing something we don’t agree with”, and this game is set after Halo 5. There’s a date in Chief’s visor bootup that says 2561. As for fireteam Osiris and the Prometheans…We simply don’t know.

Read the post they made on the homepage. They are not retcon-ing Halo 5 or any events that have taken place prior.
They’re just picking up Chief’s story 3-4 years after Halo 5.
I think some people kind of took the post on waypoint in the wrong way. It’s not like they are deleting everything that came before infinite to go on a crazy fantasy cruise around the universe lol. I think what they meant is they are looking to change what things like the campaign, the general gameplay, the multiplayer are in Halo, without changing its core characteristics. It’s not like the entire Halo universe is going into the dumpster though, the story will still be the same.

Exactly. Instead of dark mystery their pushing hope, spiritual feels like CE/3 did. The Gen 3 armor being classic style vs 4/5

My take is that they are taking the existing story and applying the look and tone of Halo CE.
Yes they are Cortana’s army and addressing her seems to be a main plot point given the chip and the end but with her. Maybe redesigned to be more sentinel like.
I think they are still around. We don’t know yet.
Buck left the team in a bookShe’s clearly not dead from the trailer. I assume she’s still evil because it’s her Halo ring and the humans attacked it. Plus the Pelican is disabled by a Guardian. However they seem to be going for that Hoepful vibe so Iam guessing he’s gonna try and set things right. If they follow Halo CE plot then she’s not the ultimate evil but the Flood are instead.
I think it’s a direct sequel. The fact that they have “evil Cortana” in the trailer pretty neatly spells that out. They might use this battle on the Halo ring to cull a large part of the cast though; maybe.
