Way back in the olden days of pre-Halo 3 there was a rumour, not sure how serious, about having Spartan-IIIās in the campaign, kinda like the S-IVās in Halo 4. Would have been a cool concept, but I remember reading somewhere that Bungie toyed with the idea, then ditched it in favour of updating the ODSTs.
I for one would love to see the SPI armor on the Ghosts of Onyx cover come to life in Halo 5, be great for canon, better than all this manga armor we have now.

Yeah, I tried to dig up some old stuff but couldnāt find it. I think there was a leak, or Bungie released some concept art or something and people went nuts. Would have been so cool I think. Then we had Reach and for a bit it looked like as though it would be S-IIIās in SPI but they used Mjolnir instead.
Definitely would have have made the story better, can you imagine some of Gamma company dropping in to the battlefield in Voi? Chief is pinned by Brutes and down come the SOIV pods with the S-III Squad! Marines are like WTF did more Spartans come from, thought Chief was the last. Then ONI comes in later and explains how there was no more reason to keep it classified, either they save Earth or its all over.
I was one of those who was pumped for āSPIā in Halo 3, only to find it was sadly a new thing called āEVAā when the game launched. In Reach I donned the āPilotā helmet as soon as I could. I love the idea of the SPI armour being updated to āFPIā (fully powered infiltration armour). Seeing it again on the cover of Halo:Last Light reminded me of how awesome that armour is.
Last night I unlocked āBuckaneerā armour in Halo 5. The helmet is similar to the āpilotā helmet, and the description reads āa crude but functional mjolnir variantā. So for now I will play as a Spartan III who managed to upgrade his SPI into shielded armour, much how āHelljumperā is a powered ODST set.
With the release of the Mk IV and later the Mk V, I can only hope if we make enough noise, that SPI will be added too.

That would be freaking awesome! idk how they would have implemented them as AI though, Iād prefer playing as them then 2 random elites in co-op, at least give me the option

Buckaneer seems like its hinting towards SPI, but Recluse is specifically for Gamma Spartan IIIās, a theory anyway
