Speed of UNSC Starfighters

At what speed do the UNSC Starfighters (Sabre, Longsword, Broadsword) fly at. Just wondering the speed for weapon damage calculations.

I don’t think we’ve ever gotten an answer for this… I think we’re gonna have to wait until someone takes the time to come up with some theoretical velocities based on gameplay video…

Whatever speed it is, its gotta be hella fast!

Well they’re firing 20mm cannons, in vacuum…you can probably start there.

I don’t think there is a number out there yet.

Probably not as fast as some people are thinking

Going off by Halo 4 - Midnight, the Chief had a managed to catch up to the Didact’s ship despite it having a head start, and at one point Cortana. Noted the Didact’s ship was 300 kilometres away. Several seconds later the Chief had caught up to the Didact’s ship and hid under its shields. Do note that this requires rather extreme accelerations and requires a great amount of force in order to perform this feat.

Even more strangely the Chief’s fighter was moving faster than a MAC round from most sources (baring the “fraction of light speed” remark and the encyclopaedia).

They do fly fast, but not as fast as Covenant starfighters. As Cortana would say, “they’ve always been faster.”

Very, very, very, very, very, very, very high speed.

Is there really any way of knowing that?

20mm? Which UNSC space-fighter has that?

The F-41 Broadsword is equipped with two 35mm autocannons (on variable mountings, apparently).
The YSS-1000 Sabre is running with two 30mm autocannons (fixed to the hull).
And the GA-TL1 Longsword…

  • C712 variant is packing two 50mm autocannons.
  • The C709 variant is loaded for bear, with a nose-mounted 110mm rotary cannon, and further armed with two ventral-mounted retractable 120mm cannons on ninety-degree swivel mounts.

I’ve seen people put the Longsword at escape velocity, though their reasoning had some flaws. They do show them in Halo 3 crossing 60km in a couple seconds.

That was a reference to their capability of slipapce travel, not sublight maneuvering.

You can say that again!

I was thinking of a different starfighter actually now that I look back on it. Similar universe to Halo but not since these fighters are FTL capable…but still have ballistic ammunition.

They’ve always been faster as in how well their slipspace thingy’s work.

Broadswords have a speed of 100 km/s going by Halo 4.

Longswords are tricky because their only real speed feat is Chief using one to escape from Halo in the original game and because of the scene cut, makes it nearly impossible to calc besides ‘really -Yoinking!- fast.’

Shouldn’t the halo fleet battles tabletop game have some kind of speed set up for fighters, or are they even in that game?
