In this thread we bounce ideas off of one another about what reasons 343 could give to explain red vs blue Spartans.
My theory: either when on mulch-player, you play as Spartans in virtual reality gear undergoing training, fighting each other virtually. (to show that Spartans are still being trained?) OR part of the halo 4 story is that rebels stole tech from UNSC and are augmenting and gearing up their own soldiers.
Pretty crap ideas, i know, but what do you guys think?
Your first thought wouldn’t work, because the levels we play on have stories behind them. So they couldn’t be in virtual reality. I don’t know about the second one either, I doubt the Insurrectionist could get MJOLNIR armour.
My thought is that maybe there’s conflict growing inside the UNSC.
Because of a bunch of Freelancers needing a testing ground to use fragmented pieces of an AI, so in turn a simulator war is started between two oppositions.
I think it is just dumb we dont need a story line to have multiplayer its just for fun and the fact they went so far out of the way for this we play as spartan IV’s is just stupid.

i dont think they put Spartan IV’s in solely because of multiplayer, Because they were mentioned in books related to the campaign. I think Spartan IV’s were going to be in the campaign from the beginning, but they realised it would be a great thing to integrate into the multiplayer.

This is easy. We read that Spartan IVs wouldn’t require the intensive modifications/augmentations as the S-IIs and would be selected from all the branches of military. Therefore we now know that they won’t require the immense training program (from age 6).
We are going to have former Spartan IIIs turned IV’s battling other maybe renegade IVs? So it is quite easily that the innies can “acquire” a S-IV, all one has to do is convince one, or maybe they picked a UNSC soldier thats actually a innie infiltrator.
(Red team) insurrectionists made their way into the program, and after being augmented and outfitted with Mjolnir, they broke out.
(Blue team) After that a retaliation team is sent after them.
