Good find. I wonder if they will let us spectate during their tournaments.

I’m just curious why it seems that 343i’s community engineers seem more involved on this ‘team beyond’ website, and twitter, rather than their own website they tried to attract us all to?

Nice. This will be really fun. If it works, it will beat sitting around staring at menus waiting for friends to mop up the scrubs in the game they’re playing.

Not to speak for 343, but I write for one community and am far more active in others as a commenter. It’s just easier to communicate in an unofficial capacity.

This is their job though. And this is the place that they have an official capacity to talk about their game, and have a duty to the fans to convey these messages.
Instead, I continue to see OTHER websites getting insider information, then getting linked to it by people on this site. How is that community based? It’s backwards in my opinion.

I wish Devs posted as often on these forums as they do on third party ones.

No. “Community engineers” are not 343 employees. Let’s get that clear right now.

I meant Devs, I used ‘Community engineers’ wrongly. My apologies. I meant that in the sense of the people that 343i PAYS directly to be a medium between the community and them.

That’s easier said than done though. In an official capacity, there’s a certain gravity to what they say. Elsewhere, like Team Beyond, they’re not beholden to the same standard. It’s much easier to speak freely when they’re not confined to their official title, as they are here.

I’m not saying that’s why they do it, just saying that’s how I do it. I wouldn’t be shocked if they feel the same way.

Grim is the only 343 employee that I see comment on Waypoint. Ever.
Once, I saw Frankie post something before Halo 4’s launch to someone claiming he saw him at the airport and asked about a ranking system.

They don’t need to be active often, but a post here and there (like on TeamBeyond) would be greatly appreciated and cool.

I’ve seen quite a few posts by Frankie on multiple threads on TeamBeyond, which is why I’m flabbergasted as to why they aren’t using the website THEY OWN for such promotion, and answers.

I can’t speak for those other sites, since I’m not a member, but given how ‘active’ some of us at Waypoint can get - I’m not surprised they don’t post here often.

We hold them just as accountable for things they say elsewhere as we do here.

Doesn’t mean they shouldn’t post here. That puts a bad taste in my mouth, at least Bungie would be here talking and communicating. 343i has always had issues with community communication, and it’s saddening to think that about a franchise I love.

Did we just have Theater confirmed? Only reason I ask is because I read a thread yesterday with people complaining about how Theater might not even make it into the game.

Theater has been confirmed for months, as well as in campaign.

As some one else mentioned, there may be legal matters at play that none of us are aware of, i.e. an employee talking on a company forum - what’s binding and what’s not? There may be a legal precedence there. Unfortunately, I don’t know and can’t say for sure. I have about as much insider information as the next community member.

That being said, community involvement has to be a tricky beast. We over analyze everything, just as any other site. We’ll also hold them to anything they put in writing here, which can be difficult when things are still in flux. A lot of the subjects people have questions on may be slated for discussion in a later media release, or may even be an exclusive announcement. Or maybe there are things at play in terms of planning that prohibits discussion. Again, I’m just hypothesizing.

One thing is for sure, is that if they say something, and it doesn’t come to fruition, or changes, the community may interpret that as a lie. Sometimes saying nothing is the safest bet, BUT doesn’t really help us here on these forums. I’m a fan like you. I want to know more as well.

It’s all well and good for them to restrain themselves from posting things that could be taken ‘wrong’ by the community, but the same information that they post elsewhere, could be posted here. Easily. In a simple thread labeled ‘Devs respond to community’ or something of the sort, where they answer questions, and they could even have as their signature ‘These responses are not always things that come to fruition, but we try our hardest to give you up to date information, and maintain our ideals that we set forth’, or something along those lines. EASILY fixed in my opinion. They need to be community based, and stop this favoritism with other websites. Even a simple 'We can’t post information here because ______________" would go MILES in the right direction for us here in the community.

I’ve seen this with other development teams as well, namely the Mortal Kombat development team. They don’t post on their official forums, or even on most of the “casual” centered forums, they mainly post on the favored forums of the “competitive” players. It’s the same story here. 343 mainly posts on neogaf and/or TeamBeyond, and that’s because they are more populated by the “competitive” minded players.

It’s likely a matter of “squeaky wheel gets the grease” in that “competitive” players are the most vocally against Halo, thus they feel the need to interact more to keep things correct. It’s also a matter of they clearly are making a big effort to win over the “competitive” crowd, whereas they feel the “casual” crowd will play regardless. Lastly, I’d say your average post is much more constructive on those forums, than on these forums, due to the “casual” vs. “competitive” player ratio, which they probably prefer.

I can’t say that’s for a fact why, but I think it’s likely the case. I’m honestly not that surprised or bothered by it either. Is it unfortunate that they ignore their own forums? Of course. However, it is what it is…if you’d like to see more interaction from them, you could always migrate to where they are.
