I did not receive an email, but did get a message from xbox live. However, the message was deleted somehow. Can I still get the code or is this game not even worth playing anymore?

The specialization codes were sent out, seeing that yoy got it from XBL and it was deleted means you will have to wait until 343 unlocks them for everyone else which at this time is currently TBD From what I hear it will be early next year, but don’t quote me on that.
