So, most of us have completed one specialization, right? But do you feel specialized? I mean, they have cool names and an armour mod, but you don’t actually have to drive a vehicle for Operator, snipe anyone for Rogue or carry a turret for Pathfinder.
My idea for a new form of specializations is that if you do something that the armour mod affects (eg. Driving a vehicle for Operator), you get bonus XP.
So the list of bonus XP would look like this: Wetwork- Assasinations
Pioneer- Completing War Games matches
Engineer- Collecting Ordnance Drops
Tracker- Use Promethean vision more than twice a match.
Rogue- Get kill from further than 50m away
Stalker- Once you have put a few bullets in someone, you actually kill them once their shields have recharged
Pathfinder- Get kills from detached turrets
Operator- Drive vehicles (2 xp a second, maybe)
Just an idea to give the game a bit more depth and give meaning to Specializations.
In the LE, Spartan Sarah Palmer says you have to “prove” and “work” towards unlocking the expensive Specialization armor mods. In the game, all you have to do is earn XP. 343 really needs to implement this, except I disagree with your “Stalker” idea. This would actually be a lot of fun, would take some skill instead of just playing the game, and help us actually feel like specialized Spartans.
I’ve already completed all the Specializations, but just as an apology to LE buyers, this should be implemented. It would also slow down the progression time a little, as everybody on these forums says they rank up too fast.
Not everyone likes playing PVP gametypes so if those worked similar in Spartan Ops then I would find that more interesting way of gaining a specialization over XP grinding.
I was super pumped when specializations were announced, and I was a little frustrated with what they ended up being. In a nutshell:
I was bent on a choice the player would have to make in order to further refine their play style.
What actually happened was a poor leveling system and little motivation to adopt the persona of your specialization.
I’ll be making my own thread one day, but for now, here’s my best words:
One of the main problems with specializations is the fact that they are merely an obstacle in the path to reaching the highest level. If I was somehow able to make a massive change to the game, I would revert the leveling to a system like Reach, even if the ranks were just numbers. After you hit the magic number rank, 50 let’s say, you could specialize. Or even better, maybe you would earn the specialization through related behavior. (Wetwork requires assassinations, Operator vehicle kills, ect.)Once you have “specialized,” you start unlocking the armor and weapon skins, and get the upgrade right away. Then, you are training two ranks at a time: Your SR, no different than it is right now, and your WK/OP/RG rank, the latter increased by the related behavior mentioned above. If you unlock another specialization, you can switch to it, but at the very least you will lose your inital spec’s upgrade. Once you have multiple, you can switch freely on a weekly basis.
If you like my idea, feel free to respond or add input. As I said, I’ll have a more detailed thread eventually.
I totally agree. Though I haven’t reach specific specializations, I was under the impression one could pick a specialization to become…well, more specialized in that area. A commando specialization for higher health and stamina, or maybe better load-outs depending on the specific specialization. If it’s just a continuation of the level up system, then I don’t know if it’s really that great.
Basically, if everyone is like me in the end, then why have specializations at all?
Yeah, I think it may have been better if you could only choose one specialization or two to suit your playstyle. Then you will grow with your specialization over time and the rewards will increase your abilities and mix up gameplay. People just get specializations to level up. I don’t think it should work that way. The devs had a chance to make the game much more immersive. Completing a spec should feel like an objective, not just a step to reach your final goal, level 130.
